Nail clippers Empty Nail clippers

Post by Jay Wed Jan 13, 2010 11:09 am

I got some new nail clippers the other day, the scissor type. I've only used guilotine ones til now. Seems like a daft question, sorry, but I don't wanna hurt him, is there a different technique to using scissor ones?

Iv got the scissor type ones and all I do is find the quick and make sure the blades are the other side before clipping. Prett much the same as the guilotine ones I think :]

I prefer the scissor type ones! I find they take less pressure and tend to actually cut rather than crush the claw.

As long as you are away from the quick by a couple of mm they work exactly the same. Smile

Thanks, I thought as much. The scissors are a much better grip, but I'll be trying them out at the week-end. I can't see berties quick, his nails are brown, but I just take a couple of mm's off every 3-4 weeks.

ooohh im to scared to do it to him. We did it a couple of times and it was sooo trumatic. daisy became very stressed so therefore i did, then the second time i did it i caught the quick and made him bleed. I was devastated!!

So now I have to get the vets to do it.... Im such a wimp know but he looks at me with that "dont do it" face and I just cant! I wish I could though!!

OMG how much better are the scissors! Just so much more precise and a straight cut. I could never gurantee that the guillotine would cut exactly where I intended it to, these are great! I tend to pinch a bit where I'm gonna cut, just before I do it, to see if there's any reaction, as his nails are dark, and it was so much easier to get that too Thumbs Up

Sounds like I need to get some of the scissor kind!

It's such an ordeal cutting Piper and Sanford's nails I really think this would help... Alfred is the only one that will let me cut his nails without a fuss, I usually take the others to the vet to do it Embarassed

Marley will sit and give me his paws like a little dog but the other three all have to be tranced for both our safety, unfortunately.

I use some of those scissors too Very Happy

The worst of our buns is BJ who has black claws apart from three which are white. I end up taking off a miniscule amount at a time.

If you think buns claws are bad I am trying to trim the cat's at the moment. The vet gave up at our last visit as Bobbie objected so much. As she rarely goes out now and has given over looking after them herself they are pretty gruesome. They are awful to cut as they are so brittle but flaky. Being old and cantankerous she will only let me trim one a day - a cat screaming in temper is not a pretty sound pale
