Heart attack this morning! Empty Heart attack this morning!

Post by NSD Sat Mar 06, 2010 12:53 am

I am so exhausted right now. This morning I woke up, like usual, and fetched the bunnies their breakfast from the fridge. I went into their room, made my "you have food" sound, and Bruce came galloping over to me as he always does, eager to eat the most food possible before Jose.

And Josephine didn't come.

I called her name, rustled my bag (they know the sound of the bag i keep the food in), made the 'food' noise again.

No Josephine.

At this point i was thinking - maybe she's sick? Maybe she has GI and is tired and doesn't want to move. It's a Saturday and my trusted vet closes at 12 so I was quickly thinking about whether I could call them and they'd take her as an emergency appointment because the local animal emergency hospital isn't fantastic for animals who aren't dogs and cats. So I start searching through their room, expecting to find a sick and/or dying bunny. She's not in the corner. She's not in any of her five boxes. She's not hiding behind the painting. Or behind the littler box. She's not anywhere! I felt so sick, I started to panic, went to my mum yelling - Josephine's gone! As they live inside I thought she had escaped last night into the garden when I opened the door to remove their soiled litter, if she's been outside for that long, there are cats, there are mosquitoes, we don't get the myxi vaccine over here and there's been a recent outbreak.....

I hear a rustle. And another rustle. From inside their room.

And I go to a large plastic box that I keep their hay in. It's shut and sealed. Inside is Miss Piglet, gorging herself on hay, as she has been, all night long. She must have gotten in there when I opened it last night to give them hay. Hissy

I picked her up. She's usually a thin and soft bunny, this time her belly was quite large and full. She, unsurprisingly, declined to have any breakfast.

One day these bunnies are going to be the death of me... but secretly I love it and their naughty little noses. "Oh hi. You're found me, have you? Took you long enough"

Ha ha thanks guys. I was so worried. She seems perfectly fine this morning although there are a lot more poos in the little tray than usual. Silly naughty girl. What am I going to do with her?

I'll have to get Bruce to school her on proper bunny manners Very Happy
