Fighting bunnies
Hi ive got two RSPCA rescue bunnies who we love dearly' they have been together for the best part of a year. Henry is a sable and a very loving little man, he is almost a year old. Poppy is a lion-head and very long haired she is 2 years old, she is very sweet quite happy to cuddle but they both perfer to run round the garden. THE PROBLEM: Over the winter weve had to keep them covered up and havent let them out as much as we would have liked. Last night we were cleaning them out and we noticed Poppy was very matted and there was her fur all over the run, we checked her over and noticed she had scratches and was bleeding, I came into the house to ring the vet as I did my other half shouted and the bunnies was fighting, it didnt last for more then a few seconds, we went to the vet and she agreed the wounds were from fighting and we should have Poppy neuterd, Henry has been done, the vet also said we should keep them apart for two weeks, until Poppy has had the operation, then we willl have to keep them apart until she has healed. I really dont want to keep them apart this long Poppy is looking for Henry and he is looking for her. Also we dont have any room to keep them apart this long, Poppy is in the house but space is very limited, shes in the kitchen. The vet also said that even when we have her done she and Henry might not go back together. I feel very guilty, any advice would be really grateful. Thank you

Re: Fighting bunnies
Hi there Henrypopp.... I know your 2 bunnies well. I suspect that as the spring is here, Henry, despite his lack of baby making facilities, will be sensing smells from Poppy. This can sometimes lead to this sort of problem. Getting her speyed should do the trick. Re bonding can they be attempted. The only other thing I can think is that perhaps Poppy is poorly and despite no visible signs, he may be picking up on this and being aggressive to her as in the wild, a poorly bun is a hindrance and makes you vulnerable to prey.
I think that separating them for now is a good idea. And then attempting a re bond. I am sure that someone will be along with better advice shortly. Don't panick, between us we will get this sorted and worked out! Bunnies ey, who'd have em

Don't worry too much about the re-bonding. When I had Gloria dressed, she was kept apart from Wolfie for a couple of weeks before going back. They were absolutely fine. Getting your bun spayed will really be such a good thing to do and she and her companion, will be happier buns for it.

Re: Fighting bunnies
Hi and welcome to HH Bucks do still have testosterone in their blood, in small amounts, even when neutered, and although they can't do anything with it, the Springtime can still mean they are humping.
Poppy will benefit from being speyed, and there is a chance they might not re-bond, but is only a chance, and the alternative, to keep things as they are, isn't good for Poppy.
Vibes for your buns, keep us posted on what happens.

Hi this is a quick update on whats been going on, we have seperated Henry and Poppy but they can see each other, Henry and Poppy are laid up the wires looking at each other but they are 6 foot apart. Iam taking this as a good sign and hopefully the sun wasnt in that part of the runs, haha. Poppy's injurys are starting to heal and they dont look as bad as they did on Saturday. I would like to thank everyone who replied and gave me their advice and experiance, I hope too be able to update you all in a few weeks saying my bunnies are happy again, fingers crossed.

Re: Fighting bunnies
Sounds as though it is going well. It is a shame they are apart but important for Poppy. She was such a weenie girl. Let us know how it goes and we will be here to walk you through the spay and re bond. Hugs to them both. Naughty wee Henry, he is too beautiful to be a thug.
Happy Bunnies again!!!!!
Hello there, sorry for not replying sooner but weve had fun these past weeks. Poppy and Henry are back togerther and are vey much best friends again, sharing food, grooming each other and sleeping together, the bonding went well and id like to thank you all for your advice and support especially DIXIELUBUN, who was at the end of the phone when i was at my wits end and was always helpful and it never seemed any trouble, so thank you very much.
