Grass is better than hay?
i was meant to start this thread ages ago, but anyway
as i was told by my vet (or Simon for those who know him!), grass is better for rabbits than hay.
he said its much more abrasive, and its got a much better nutrients in it than hay does, as all hay is, is dried grass, and you lose those nutrients in the drying process.
saying that, my rabbits don't even touch hay anymore. they eat grass almost non-stop during the day, (free range)
and i even stopped giving them pellets to try and increase their hay intake when they were locked up. it didn't work, and they only went and used the hay to poo on .
I would say Simon is very rabbit savvy, (called the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic or something) so i trust him, buuuuuuuut i was just wondering what you guys thought?

Re: Grass is better than hay?
I would have *thought* that hay is dry would be more abrasive against their teeth?

Re: Grass is better than hay?
It is 'better' than hay in abrassiveness and yes it is fuller in nutrients BUT some rabbits can become prone to digestive issue's if they gorge themselves on grass or if the grass is richer than they are used to. In that respect, hay is a safer constant forage than grass.

boblets, i dried my own grass, and they didnt want it! waaaah!
i'm not saying this as a irresponsible owner, but there is seriously nothing i can do to get them to eat hay!
