Calling Giant Rabbit Owners
I'm in need of some help and advice for a client at work and wonder if you guys could help me please
For those that don't know I'm a vet nurse and have a client with a conti who she bought from pets at home at 6 months and she hadn't been handled much at all. She now has sore hocks but the lady is having difficulty bathing them with hibiscrub as the rabbit doesn't like being manhandled and runs off!
What i'd like is some tips on how to handle giant rabbits in order to apply meds, do bum checks etc and any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks everyone

My Lola is very fiesty so we do the only thing we can - tag team her! It's always a two man team and we use a big towel to wrap her up quite tightly. It sounds cruel but it's the only way we can get panacur/metacam etc down her...and be as quick as possible

Amen to that. I am the same with Bella. Because she was nearly a year and hadn't been handled it is virtually impossible. She also suffers with sore hocks which makes it one hell of a job.

Lola has no excuse for her naughtiness! We got her as a baby and she was handled a lot...she just knows her own mind and doesn't like to keep it quiet

Re: Calling Giant Rabbit Owners
Bruce is fine being patted while he's on the ground, but as soon as someone picks him up he goes crazy, and being strong he can always escape me. I adopted him when he was about 1 so maybe his fear of being held is linked to the way he was treated? He loves being pat as long as he's on the ground and able to run away.
He'll always come up to say hello when I enter their room, so i enlist someone else to help me. We use a larger-than-normal bath towel and wrap him up. The other person holds him and i administer whatever he needs. I try to get the other person to be a guy - the stronger the more likely that they can keep him under control!
