Help Needed UD Happening again:(
Hattie has refused to eat her tea and i've just checked and she has a very slightly runny nose. I have given her metacam and 2ml of fiberplex. Should i take her to the emergency vet or get an appointment first thing? Is there anything else i can do?

how does she seem in herself? do you have something warm she could lie on and rub her tummy to help get things moving?

Re: Help Needed UD Happening again:(
hmmm. its difficult to say, i mean she obviously needs to see a vet but you know that, its just the question of when, because of it being half 11!
if it was mine i would probably take them now to the out of hours, if the stuff you are doing doesnt give any progress soon. i hope she is better soon, could it be her teeth?

she's never had a prob with her teeth before but i think it might be...its just the snotty nose thats weird as its only a tiny little bit but def unusual. i'm going to give her a hour for the metacam to kick in...if not i think you are right and a trip to the vets is in order

Re: Help Needed UD Happening again:(
Sorry to hear this Kirsty.
It's difficult to say when to take her - I think like you I'd give it a little more time but take her later tonight if she hasn't improved.
Good luck, really hope she picks up soon.

i think an hour is a good timeframe.
Wen Jelly has had stasis before, the first thing she always goes for is grass. I know its different for every bun but for her its always grass, i think maybe because veggies and pellets and even hay can be a bit tough? (thats just my weird logic LOL) Do you have a garden? could you snip some and see if she will give it a little nibble?

Re: Help Needed UD Happening again:(
thanks guys. we have been to the vets and have been given some baytril just to be on the safe side with her nose being a little runny. she is very unimpressed by the whole thing but hopefully we are on the road to recovery

Thank you She is totally hating me at the moment with having the baytril twice a day but i know it's for her own good so i have to be cruel to be kind. she seems fine in herself...she can certainly wriggle and thump

Re: Help Needed UD Happening again:(
well we are back to square one got home tonight after breaking down on the motorway to find Hattie not wanting to eat her tea...well she wants to as she runs to the food but then leaves it. At first i thought teeth but after having a close look her nose is runny again. she had a weeks worth of baytril but i don't think it was enough. So it's another sleepless night after dosing her with metacam and fiberplex and vets after work tomorrow.
do you think it could be snuffles?

Re: Help Needed UD Happening again:(
Oh no I dont recon snuffles tbh hun, It doesnt really add up that she isnt eating cos of a snotty nose. Sorry havent read entire thread, have her teeth been really well checked? Runny noses and obv not eating are both symptoms? If shes otherwise healthy i'd be tempted to have her knocked out and a little explore in the mouth. Hope you find an answer soon though. Very odd. Big hugs, Poor girl XX

Re: Help Needed UD Happening again:(
I agree with Becki - this sounds like teeth to me.
Symptoms sound very much luck Daisy's when his teeth were playing up.
Daisy's couldnt be seen as being bad until he was put under either so def worth asking the vet to do it asap just in case.

I really don't know Kirsty I'm sorry Hattie's not well again, let us know how it went today
Re: Help Needed UD Happening again:(
thanks for the replies guys. the vet doesn't want to knock her out at the moment due to the funny noise she makes when she breathes under stress. if there is something going on with her chest they don't want to risk the op at the moment but i do think teeth is something that needs to be addressed if the baytril doesn't work. we have a month's worth of baytril then another appointment to check and see how she's doing. she perked right up after an hour last time and was trying to mug me for food...she really does like to test my nerves! vet said it was also worth baring in mind that change to her routine might have upset her (we have a house viewing that day and she had to go in her carrier for a little bit)

Re: Help Needed UD Happening again:(
Are you giving her Metacam reactively or every day? My thinking is that if it was teeth, she'd be in pain a lot of the time and she wouldn't want to eat hardly at all?
