A short story - Little Pip
A short story to remind ourselves of the fantastic work rescues do, and to remind ourselves of the rainbow bridge, and how much comfort it brings. It is a sad story, but with a happy ending.
Little Pip didn’t remember much of his life, he didn’t remember how he got here, to this wonderful place. He remembered his mother, she was gentle and kind. She had very soft dark fur. But she was ever so shiny, she was perfect. He remembered being groomed by her, her tongue was wet and warm and she cleaned him all the time. Little Pip didn’t have any brothers or sisters. This was strange, as most bunnies are born in large litters. Little Pip was very tiny, and he often struggled to keep warm. His mother was rescued from a house that has been abandoned. She had been left there all alone. She gave birth to lots of little pink babies, none of us had fur. But by the time a kind lady got to the house, only one had survived. She placed him in the middle of her hand and looked at him closely. “You’re ever so small little guy. But I’ll try to make you better”.
The kind lady took Little Pip and his mother to her sanctuary. By the time Little Pip had his eyes open, they were in a lovely big enclosure, with so much soft straw for Little Pip to wriggle around in. Every day Little Pip grew a little more, and his black fuzzy fur began to come through. He was small and fuzzy. Little Pip was almost two weeks old, and he had defied the odds, and was growing up. But that’s when it gets hazy.
He cannot remember any more. He remembers getting up from a snuggle with his Mummy, but she didn’t wake up. He clambered all over her soft silky body but she didn’t do anything. The kind lady came and took him away, cuddling him close saying “Poor little mite, poor thing”. He didn’t understand. What was happening? After that, She places him in cosy bed and put a warm blanket beneath him. Everything was so strange. He snuggled into the bed and closed his eyes, imagining his Mother was with him. He missed her. he was never as warm, food didnt taste the same, he didnt like it.
The next morning, the kind lady and a man were standing by him. He tried to look up but he felt too weak. “He’s just not responding, he’s too young to be without his mother”. The man nodded and patted her on the back. “He’s defied us before, he might do it again”. She smiled and looked into the bed and stroked his tiny tiny ears very softly. “Come on Little Pip, come on”. But Little Pip couldn’t. He just wasn’t strong enough to survive without his mother, and during the afternoon, whilst snuggled close to the kind lady’s chest, he slipped away.
And now he doesn’t know where he is. He doesn’t understand. He just didn’t understand how he got her. He looked around him. Everything was beautiful, the grass was so soft. But Little Pip was still to small to understand. He felt a gentle nudge behind his ears, it felt just like his mother. He turned around and there she was. His beautiful mother, her fur shimmering in the sunlight. He ran to her and snuggled deep into her fur. She gently started grooming his tiny ears, and he closed his eyes and felt peace at last. And they were together again.
I couldnt get any further with the HH book project tonight but needed to get my creativity going again, and i thought maybe someone might like to read it.
