Neutering
I'm amazed too read in another topic about neutering a male at 12 weeks.
Just this week the man where I got my bunnies told me not to neuter before at least 5 months. (he sold a bunny, the people had it done at 4 months even though he told them not to and it died) I did some research and everywhere I found 5-6 months.
I was about to have Lucas done next week, but I decided to wait another 5-6 weeks, even if I'm eager to bond him with Hayley.
I have been reading here and there about very early spaying of cats and it seems that this is becoming very popular in USA but it makes me shiver.

Re: Neutering
It's a fait point, but Males can be neutered as soon as their plums drop. Some vets prefer to wait a while longer, but every vet and specialist I've seen is happy to do them at this point. It's normally 12 weeks, but can be sooner or later depending on the bun. The earlier they are neutered, the less chance they have of developing hormonal problems like aggression and spraying.
Does should not be spayed until they are at least 4 months old, most people wait until 6 months.
All rabbits and animals (and humans) are at risk of loosing their life under General anesthetic, and it has happened to some members buns here. This is usually due to an unknown condition like a weak heart.
I would ask the rescues about this if you're unsure as they handle many babies, and have them routinely neutered, and as far as I know, as soon as possible.
The House Rabbit assoc. has some info on it that may help

Re: Neutering
I don't think it's fair to attack another members advice by starting a whole thread aimed at that person, I don't see why you couldn't have posted your opinion on the thread concerned where it would have been directly relevant.
The age at which a male can be castrated depends entirely on that individual. if the rabbits testicals have both dropped and taken on a rounded and full appearance then that rabbit is ready for neutering. This happens sooner in smaller breeds which mature faster. A Netherland Dwarf may be ready at 12 weeks whilst a Giant could take as long as six months. On average most males can be neutered between 16 and 20 weeks and most vets will not feel confident neutering before 16 weeks.
For the record when I was rescuing we neutered young bucks at 4 months if they were matured by that age. I have never lost a male under GA, just two females of over 100 rabbits, and they both had pre-existing medical issues.
I hope that clarifies matters.
