Neutering..
Finally booked Thistle in for the chop for Thursday O_O, it's the vets practice I took Luna too and everything was okay there when she went, although the receptionist this time told me twice on the phone to make sure I don't feed/water him the night before...I know I'm not supposed to do that so I'm going to ignore this. However if I go in and the vet says the same thing, I am not going to let him operate on him....because if I know this, then the person who's qualified to look after him medically should know too.
I really wanted to get this all over and done with, but now I'm a tad nervous that I'll have to pull out if the vet doesn't seem good enough! Wish me luck! It's a different vet from last time - so I'll have to investigate when he has his check up thursday morning, if I'm not happy with it I shall take him elsewhere

Re: Neutering..
Sounds like a good plan. You need to be confident with the vet. Good luck hun.
Sending you lots of good luck vibes for Thistle. I hope it all goes okay. I'm sure it will, Daisy was back to his usual self within hours.
I also think you should tell the vet that this is the advice that the receptionist is giving. There could be other buns out there where their owners don't know better and she should be stopped from doing this really. That is really really bad!!

Re: Neutering..
Thank you! I will defo let the vet know I'm so glad it isn't as serious as an operation as having a girl spayed, it was so horrible when Luna went and there were a few complications.
I shall let you know how it goes by thursday evening I hope xx

Re: Neutering..
Good luck for Thistle! In my experience boy bunnies are usually fine again very quickly after neutering.
I agree with Katie about telling the vet about what the receptionist has been saying - that's awful! Might save some other bunny owners from being given the wrong advice.

Re: Neutering..
You definitely need to mention to the vet about the receptionist. She really needs to know that her advice is wrong. When I have had my buns booked in for an op, I have always been told not to starve them because they can't vomit and it is dangerous. Luckily you questioned this because you knew it was wrong, but other people might not be so lucky and their rabbits will pay the price.
All my buns have always been fine the next day, especially males neuters. They are very resilient little guys.

Re: Neutering..
Good luck with Thistle. I'm sure it will be fine.
Before I had Josephine desexed I interrogated the vet. I asked how many times she'd done it, how many had died, and tested her out by saying "oh ok i won't feed them the night before" to make sure that the vet corrected me.
Hopefully it's just a misinformed receptionist. It would be really dangerous if someone did stop feeding their rabbit the night before!

Re: Neutering..
Good luck, and definitely inform the vets, buns can't vomit, so there's no need to starve them, and it can kill them through stasis, as it's hard enough to get some to eat afterwards.
You could print this out and take it with you, it's on the second page about pre-op starving.
