Report in to the Manufacting of pet foods U/D Report added
Has anyone seen this report?, it was commissioned by Supreme Petfoods, makes very interesting reading, I can post the report up here if anyone hasn't seen it, I would like to know what everyone else thinks of it?

Blimey That makes for interesting reading, and slightly alarming too. I wonder how Hoppers who use these products feel this?

Oooh Mine have P@H pellets which are probably made for them by one of these companies. That is shocking that they are stating an artificial level of fibre and the level of sugar in some is dreadful.

It used to be Wagg making Pets @ homes feed so it probably still is.

Really shocking, and upsetting.
Until I learnt from bunny forums I didn't realise how important fibre was and I fed them on Burgess Supa Fruiti - the worst on the market It seems that one is the most likely to give them 'mad cow disease' or whatever we will go on to discover the human race has caused by feeding bunnies (herbivores) on meat products. Absolutely shameful. I did buy a rabbit treat (can't remember brand ?Armitage?) a while ago which when I got it home I realised it had gelatine in - I took it back to the shop and they couldn't see any issues It's just plain wrong to feed them animal byproducts, it's blatantly dangerous, history has shown that.

Re: Report in to the Manufacting of pet foods U/D Report added
I have just come across this, and like you all i am completley shocked!!
My bun has burgess excel adult. What would be your opinions on this... should i change it? If so what to!?
All this is a mind field. You, well i, just assume that the food you get for them is up to standard, when it says high in fibre, i assume it is!
Any recommendations would be much appreciated

Re: Report in to the Manufacting of pet foods U/D Report added
I feed the majority of our bunnies on a mixture of Science Selective and A & P pellets, although I do have other a different foods depending on their history and medical condition
I thought the report was very good and showed us what we really need to know

Re: Report in to the Manufacting of pet foods U/D Report added
I told my vet today that I was thinking of changing their pellets to Bunny Basics, and he didn't seem very happy. He asked me why, and I said I had found pellets with higher fiber content and less sugar etc. and also that I've read about the trace meat content found in Excel. He said it sounds like I've been reading a lot of propaganda and said that he thinks Excel is excellent and has been feeding rabbits it for 10 years with no problems. He also said that the sugar content in Excel is good for rabbits because of their vegetarian diet, they need it. I felt a bit sheepish, and am now rethinking changing pellets. I know it's silly to be so easily swayed by a vet, but I do think he's a good vet and knows what he's talking about, and since the buns like Excel so much, it may be a shame to give them anything else.
