On our rescue page this month we are featuring Maria's Rescue in Cornwall where you'll find, among others, a rabbit named 'Pitbull' who is looking for a home. We also feature Hull Animal Rescue, where you will find details of Flower and Rose and also the 'Take That Boys', a bonded trio. All details of these rescues and the rabbits in need of homes are to be found here http://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/rwf/?section=rescues.html

We'd also like to tell you about the Cat and Rabbit Rescue Centre, which is situated in Sidlesham, Chichester. The Rabbit Rescue Officer, Deborah, says,

"We are very keen to promote our rescue as we've never known it so quiet in terms of enquiries for adoptions, yet still the unwanted rabbits keep on coming in more and more.

We are located in rural Sidlesham, near Chichester and take in rabbits, guinea pigs and cats. Since we started in 1986, we have rescued over 10,000 animals and have made huge number of changes. From one outbuilding, an old caravan and 6 rabbit hutches, we now a 6,000 sq ft. rehoming and veterinary centre, 30 indoor rabbit and guinea pig pens, over 20 outside rabbit runs and 7 rabbit compounds. As well as rescuing rabbits, we are also heavily involved in the community, attendng outdoor events, schools, taking part in local radio shows to promote not just the rescue but the needs of domestical rabbits in terms of space, exercise, feeding, neutering etc.

80% of our adoptions tend to be people looking for a 2nd rabbit and as a result we have developed a bonding facility on site to help people with the bonding process. We passionately believe that rabbits need company of their own kind and for that reason, we only rehome single rabbits as 2nd rabbits or rabbits in pairs where people don't have a rabbit that needs to be bonded. Sadly we are asked to take on 10 times more rabbits than we have homes for.

Brie & Mozzarella are two female rabbits that arrived at the centre on the 27 Febuary 2012 because their owner had too many rabbits and could no longer look after them. Brie is the black rabbit and Mozzarella the black and brown. They are both friendly girls that get on well and enjoy a cuddle, although mozarella is a little bit more nervous.

Bovril is a 2 year old black and white rex rabbit who has been with us at the centre since 24th December 2010 because his owner died. He is a nice boy who would love to find a new home with a female bunny where he can have lots of fuss.

Every Sunday we have a rabbit and guinea pig open afternoon from 2.00pm to 3.30pm and our poster advertising that is below..

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like more information."

If you are able to help these, or any other rescues, particularly by adopting, perhaps by fostering, or just by going along and offering your services with cleaning out, transport to the vet, etc, then please do get in touch with them direct.

If you know somebody who is thinking of getting a rabbit, please ask them to consider carefully what they are taking on, and please encourage them to adopt from a rescue, never to breed from their own rabbits.
