Baby Hedgehog is at it again! Empty Baby Hedgehog is at it again!

Post by Tuckerbunnies Thu Oct 11, 2012 3:37 am

So funny tonight, I went and fed Monroe the feral cat and I was sat doing all the bunny feeds and Mike had popped to Tesco's to get more greens and suddenly I heard a meowing at the door and I got up and opened it and there sat Monroe, I said what's a matter I've just put your food out and Monroe ran to the corner and stood looking at me so I followed and when I looked it was the baby hedgehog again sat in the cat food dish. Monroe wasn't happy and so I did another dish of cat food and gave Monroe it. I'd asked Mike to get me some more cat food from Tescos and luckily he just got the meat ones and no fish as hedgehogs can't have fish as it upset's their tummy, only if he is going to steal some cat food every night I can't really put fish cat food out now well not till I know he or she is hibernating.

Some photos I took tonight ( Wednesday)

There lovely animals, I know someone who has 1 as a pet, she thinks there boring, could be due o the fact there not meant to be pets. Trouble is she knows nothing about the animals she keeps getting, pg only last a year or 2 then they die, about 6-8 so far makes me really mad, now its african pigmis and hogs, not that I know what the african pigmi is. Other lass I know wanted a badger, why cant folk leave them where they belong in the wild. Breeders have long waiting lists for badgers.

Maysie you and Mike are so lovely, feeding all those bunny mowfs as well as visitors from outside now too! Hugs

That baby hedgehog is so gorgeous Love And Monroe too!

I've heard of the African Pygmy Hedgehogs too. They were another "trendy phase" at one point, taking over from "Micropigs". It is just wrong. They are wild animals! And as for badgers, well that makes me sick! No

A tuxedo cat Smile and a very handsome one too Love

The hoglet is very cute, I didn't know they couldn't eat fishy cat food, so thank you for that. Do hedgehogs have to be a certain size/weight before they can hibernate?

No fish food is not good for them it just upsets their tummies and they end up with bad diarrhea. They usually hibernate in October- November but sometimes if they are fed every night and have a good food source they don't hibernate, but it helps if they are a good weight before hibernation as the thinner hedgehogs will be weak and not survive the Winter.

Cold Winters I put dried food out for them like cat biscuits ( meat only) or the hedgehog food that you can buy with dried bananas in it as the cat food freezes and so they can't eat it. They can't have anything salty either .

I have found out that in the UK, it is a criminal offense to own a badger as a pet and they are a protected animal by law.
Anyone breeding badgers for pets should be reported to the RSPCA and the Police, likewise anyone keeping a badger without special authorisation.

What a lovely hoggie, I have an African Pygmy hedgehog as a pet. They have always been one of my favourites.
