whenever it gets dirty really which varies but it always does the job no matter how many times i wash it.

I have two bits for the shed and i alternate them and wash them every few days

so putting in the washing machine once a week wont do it any harm, it starts to get a bit smelly by end of 7days if one of them has accidently missed their toilet

I use a lot of vet bed and wash it when it's required ( usually around 5 days) depending on the bunsters using it. Peppers and Ezzie are really clean and it stays dry and clean all week. Dandelion and Noah on the other hand are messy ( well she is anyway) so it needs doing more often. I always have spare clean in case I can't get it dried in time, but it tumbles in about half an hour so it's really versatile. I would put it in a netted wash bag though to save your washing machine filter.
