New unexpected newbies Empty New unexpected newbies

Post by ShazzaBunny Thu Nov 29, 2012 3:21 pm

Yesterday i went to pick up a 5ft x 2.5ft double hutch for free, thinking great for my fosters Very Happy . Turns out, it was a rickety 4ft double, unsuitable for any bun, but its worse, there were 2 residents Sad . Apparently the person who was meant to collect them, didnt show up, male and female a year old, living together Shocked Sad . Both very underweight, and have apparently never had babies. I could not leave them, of the "hutch" (firewood) behind Embarassed Sad . Furious, but relieved they are safe. I had said no more, but how could i not? And how could i dump them on a rescue when i chose to take them? So, here they are....

Winter

And as these were unexpected newbies, and the "hutch" i was meant to get was awful, i decided to go for it and bond Pickle in my group. I can honestly say, easiest bond ever, must be because my guys are used to being in a larger group, they just had a sniff and settled down ShockedLove (they have a permanent 9ft x 5ft run but its blocked while they finish bonding)

Winter is particularly gorgeous, those eyes would melt anyone! Love Love Love

Pickle is stunning too, she just doesnt show that well in photo's as she is so diferent from every angle Love Love Love
He just fell in love with the group the minute he saw them.

Winter will join the group once Pickle has been neutered, i know up to now they have apparently not had babies, but its not a risk i could ever be responsible for, so sadly she is alone for a couple of weeks Sad .

Oh no, it is definitely the most sensible option to take waiting for Pickle to be neutered. I just wasn't sure if she was going to join the group or not, it's lovely that she is Love

I'm sure she won't mind being alone for a few weeks. From the sounds of what she was living in, she will think she has fallen on her feet in a bunny palace at the moment and will probably just be enjoying such a lovely life for the first time.

I'm SO glad they have you! They are both beautiful. Love I hope Winter Love can be placed so she can still see and smell her companion. She may grieve for him and that would be sad.

Wouldn't you have just loved to have heard the conversations between Branson Pickle and your warren? "You're safe here." "We're loved." "She gives us goodly noms." "Welcome." "We love our Bunny Mummy" "Can I have a snuggle?" Happy Dance

Thank you all Love . Pickle is very content in the group, and whats more, he has started to run over for nose rubs (admitadly he runs away before he gets them, but is a massive improvement from not wanting anything to do with humans). I find putting shy buns in with overly nosey, friendly buns does them the world of good as they see the trust from their friends, and follow their lead.

Winter is a total snuggle bunny, she just wants cuddles all the time, which is good because i feel bad for her being alone. I sadly could not put her anywhere near the shed/run the group have, but she is in the big bunny shed, where she can see and interact with the others. Its only for another week or so, then she can join the group Very Happy , a necessary evil as they say, that is providing she is not pregnant, i pray she isnt.

They were meant to come, i am sure, as they both settled so well. Their previous owner did send me a wee text to ask after them, i feel i judge people in my head (never to their face) for not meeting my lowest standards, let alone my highest, but she did text to see if they settled in, so its not like they were gone and forgotten. I guess it comes down to that old saying, education is the key Smile .

Sounds like they're getting on great with you in their lovely new home Thumbs Up

I know exactly what you mean about overly friendly buns bringing shy ones out of their shell. My Mojo was so timid and nervy when I got him, and to an extent he still is, but he didn't want anything to do with me really when he arrived. But Willow is the world's friendliest bun, and since they've been bonded she's shown him that "hoomins is good, dey bring noms!" and the difference is amazing! Like Pickle, he doesn't actually want a nose rub just yet, but he will hop over to me through choice now which he never did before. It is lovely to see them change, isn't it? Love

How wonderful that Mojo is coming out of his shell with Willow's help, i think he will come round to you soon, they all have such wonderul charictoristics dont they Love . Pickle is being quite playful when he runs away, its not a "run for cover Shocked " any more, more of a "cant catch me Razz " now Laughing
