What's the likelihood...

So as I'm sure all of you know by now - Willow's peeing is terrible. She will cover the entire floor, all of her upper levels etc and I have seen her on several occasions spraying pee at Mojo as well. I am constantly not only scrubbing the floor 3, 4, 5 times a day but also the walls, skirting boards etc, and then there's the necessity for frequent bum baths too.

I am pretty much 99% convinced now that this is territorial/hormonal as whilst it is always bad - she has waves every few weeks where it is just awful. It doesn't help that the chinchillas share their room (there is a huge barrier between them and they cannot see/touch each other). When the chins come out for their run the buns are outside in the garden and although I am always very careful to clear up where they have been running and do my best, I'm sure they still leave a scent which drives Willow crazy...

Unfortunately it isn't a possibility to move the chinchillas or rabbits anywhere else, and even if I did I'm not sure this would work anyway as I feel it is now an established behaviour.

The buns are off to the vet for a manicure on Thursday and it is with the fantastic vet that has worked with Willow and I throughout the entire course of her "wee problem". I absolutely 100% value her opinion and at this point I am seriously considering asking for her to try a neuter again as I am at my wit's end. Not only is it foul for me to deal with, the thought that she is sitting/living in it day-in-day-out and Mo is constantly being sprayed and having to live in it too is not one I can deal with easily.

But, I did want to ask... What do you all think the likelihood is that neutering will seriously reduce/eliminate this problem? It seems to have gotten worse the older she's gotten - I don't ever remember her being this dirty as a single bun, or even in the early days with her and Mo. It seems to have been at its worst since they've been sharing with the chinchillas, and I am just worried that even if she pulls through a neuter, she is still going to feel the need to constantly mark the room so long as they are all sharing   

I really am at my wit's end with it all. It's gross and I don't like seeing her this way, but I honestly don't believe it's medical as anti-biotics don't seem to do anything these days...

I know our only answer is a spay and I am going to discuss this with the vet, but if the spay doesn't do anything I really don't know what I'll do as it is just not sustainable to keep her in this way - for me or the buns.

I think it is worth a try. You should ask your vet about alternative methods for anesthetic - as there are different sorts and there may be one that's ok for Willow.

I think if you are happy it's hormonal then this should settle things for her xx

If there is a safe option for neutering yes worth a try.
If it is territorial behaviour because of the chinchillas I'm not sure.
I would like to share a scenario.
Whilst I had all three bunnies in the warren upstairs the litter situation was as follow:
Bertie and Bubbles use a feria last cage as a litter tray and have done so since they been with me.
When I added Vernon they started to wee and poo close to his pen. Hence I put a new small litter tray there and it was usedq additionally to the feri plast cage.
As soon as I had moved Vernon out this litter tray got deserted utterly and completely. It is removed and they are back using the feri plast tray.
Might not be helpful for you??

That's a good idea c.bolduan, and it might help in some places. The trouble is she tends to leave a trail behind her which eventually covers the whole floor space...

I'm by no means an expert but I should think if it is a territorial thing, it'll be hormonal and a spay can surely only help.

I agree with everything everyone has said so far, if a GA can be done safely , then I would definitely try it.

We have unfortunately had to postpone their appointment as mum is not well today, but when we do get them to the vet and have a chat I will let you all know what they say

We are having Holly spayed very shortly. Our friend on here Cheryl has recommended a really rabbit savvy vet at a practice in Bodmin. We hope to have her neutered next month but she is peeing everywhere at the moment including over me. Paul says she s claiming me which maybe true but I really would rather she didn't LOL!!
