Thanks for all the nice messages, it's very strange being in a house with no bunnies and it's worrying having one under GA I'm trying to occupy myself with the mountain of housework that needs doing to take my mind off it.

Phew, the vets have just called, little miss is coming round now, she's had her molars burred but they weren't that bad so we caught them early, I'm going to switch her to Bunny Nature pellets to help keep them ground down, there's not a lot else we can do because she eats a lot of hay anyway and has dental check ups. Her X-ray hasn't shown anything at all but she is getting put on antibiotics to see if that will make her eye return to normal. Charlie is apparently sat happily munching pellets (why does that not suprise me- he's ruled by his tummy!). I can pick them both up at 5 and will speak to the vet then about her.

Yay! Well done for catching her teeth in time, did the xrays show anything odd?

I've just booked Mack in for his dental next Tuesday....the state of his incisors in unbelievable but the greedy little blighter is still munching away. Hopefully we'll be removing the last of the damaged enamel this time.

Absolutely nothing, I will continue to watch them both like a hawk though- hopefully the antibiotics will return her eye back to normal, it's quite obvious with her being a black bun- I'm looking forward to getting her home for a cuddle, I bet Charlie will sulk more than her and he hasn't had anything done.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Mack, bless him albino

Thanks he should be fine because hopefully it can be done without a GA but he is such a wriggler. Laughing

Do the vets agree that her eye is swollen then?

Does he get burrito'd in a towel? Poppy boxes them all Laughing , Charlie just looks really sheepish and is well behaved, I could syringe feed him without even holding him down.

Yeah they do although the last numpty I saw didn't even notice until I pointed it out- we don't usually see her, we usually see the locum who's great or the director who I trust the most, he has sorted her teeth out today. I'll be speaking to him at 5 tonight so I'll see what he says about her eye, he wants to try her with antibiotics. Do you think that it's possible that it's not caused by an abcsess and that she could've knocked it or got something in it?

Thing is it dosn't realy look inflammed, and you havn't mentioned any discharge? Which I would expect if she had knocked it or a foreign body had settled inside.

Mack gets pinned down by a nurse normally whilst Anita goes to work on him. All my other bunnies are pretty well behaved except for him! He's the trouble maker in this family.

There hasn't been any discharge which is what has confused me. I'll have to wait and see what he says about it.

haha, I'd expect mine to be the other way round, Poppy is the sweet natured cuddly one at home and Charlie is more defiant and likes to do his own thing, he lets me pick him up no bother but I'm not allowed to cuddle him for long, he nibbles me when he's had enough.

Poppy bun is back home now, she's gone straight out of the carrier to run through her tunnels on the roof terrace before diving into the hutch, she's now tucking into some dried dandelion. Her molars weren't that bad but her tongue was supposedly sore looking and we have been told we have a sensitive little bun on our hands so we will know if it happens again, he said it may or may not reoccur so we shall just have to wait and see, the dribble was from the spurs, they were worse on the right than the left but both sides have been burred down. Her X-ray showed that her roots are absolutely fine but she's on antibiotics to get rid of a possible early stage retrobulbar abscess and she's back to see the vet in two weeks, if her eye is no better she'll be put onto something stronger. It's nice to have them both home Very Happy

Well she was eating dandelion yesterday, she wouldn't eat pellets so I put some in the food processor with some water and apple and she tucked into that, this morning I've had to resort to syringe feeding the little madam because she will only eat mint leaves, thankfully she is drinking plenty from the bottle so I've put the bio lapis in her water. I'm going to pop to the shops for some of her beloved greens and a load of herbs because Charlie has managed to eat all of ours and if that doesn't work, back to the vets for pain relief.

Should I be worried about Charlie over grooming her eye, it has got worse and had white gunk in it this morning, I cleaned it with sterile gauze stuff and warm water but he keeps fussing over her and seems to be annoying her. She's only on her 2nd day of antibiotics- is there anything else I can do to help her?

TBH him grooming it will probably help keep it cleaner and more sterile....all my buns with eye infections (not abcesses) have had them clear up after moving with an attentive partner.

You only need to worry if it is appearing to cause her pain due to pressure on the eye.

I've separated them for now so I can monitor her eating and pooping, she's not eating much, not touching solids and although she is pooping they are small and there aren't many. They are still spending some time together when I can watch them but she stayed in our bedroom last night so I could keep an eye on her. I've booked her in to see the vet again today for pain relief etc so will see what he says about separating them.

Well Poppy didn't need to go back to the vets, I got home and called them to see whether to take her or not as she started eating a lot more enthusiastically they want to give the antibiotics a chance to work and she's munched a big pile of coriander, parsley, a but of banana and carrot tops she even got stroppy when she'd got to the bottom of the box and threw it out of her way, I think she's on the mend Laughing I think she's enjoying being in our bedroom, she's laid out like lady muck on a blanket, she was on the bed earlier but she pee'd all over it...twice!

Thanks, she's even better today Very Happy and is going back in the hutch tonight with Charlie now that we can tell her eating/pooping is returning to normal, I'll put her to bed with a snugglesafe and cover them over but we haven't had any heating on in the house at all so the temp change should be ok. She's started eating pellets again now, not many but it's a big improvement and she was charging around the bedroom all night and flopping out wherever she pleased. Her eye has got worse than it was initially but is now improving if that makes sense, she looks like she has a black eye at the moment, the lids are swollen and it's a bit gunky but it's bothering her less and was better yesterday and this morning than the day before.

Well Little Miss Poppy was back at the vets today, although she's full of beans her eye is a mess, the abscess got bigger then burst, for the past few days she has had pus oozing out of it, she's also now got an ulcer because they eye hasn't been kept moist. I'm hoping that because the eye is no longer protruding that it is getting better and by extending the antibiotics and putting gel on her eye that it will go but we're being referred to a specialist who may want to surgically drain and pack the abscess depending on how she responds to the antibiotics.

Fingers crossed for my little girl pleased, I don't want to lose her. Crying or Very sad

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this Sad

Hopefully they can save her eye but if the worst happens and it's to damaged don't worry, they adapt so so well. People who don't already know never realise Lexie only has one eye until it's pointed out to them and it dosn't bother her in the slightest.

Thanks, how's Mack?

Was Lexie's eye removed, if so by who, if it comes to it then I would rather that travel to someone who is more capable of doing it successfully the vet said that it's really difficult to do due to the blood supply. She can't see out of it at the moment and is doing fine, she's running around exploring and is really happy. If one positive has come out of this it's that she's bonded more closely with me and dave.

Also do you know of any safe antiseptic I can use to keep her eye area clean, it was done at the vets, I've done it again since we got back but there is another big trail of puss coming from it now, I've been using cooled boiling water but the vet used a pink antiseptic and it was much better- could it be hibiscrub?

Our bill so far is £271.55 - the insurance has just paid for itself.
