Pellets? Empty Pellets?

Post by stormyXsausage Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:15 pm

Hi, for when my baby bunnies come...

They will have 24/7 access to hay. But pellets, how much should I feed, and once a day or twice?

Thanks Smile

Some people think baby rabbits should have access to ad-lib pellets but personally I have always found that baby bunnies (or bunnies of any age for that matter) will fill up on pellets over hay if the choice is available and it is so improtant to encourage good hay eating habits from a young age, as the older they get, the more resistant they become to a change in diet.

What breed of rabbit will you be getting, as rations are normally relative to sie and expected energy expenditure. Smile

I have 2 dwarf lops, when they were babies they had an eggcup full each once a day. Now they are big each of my rabbits gets one handful (each) once a day. Science Select I have found is really good and because of the composition also helps wear their teeth down. I get it at a local pet food wholesale store for £13 a big bag but the same bag in other shops will be more like £22. However it would last you a very long time!

In which case I would feed them a small handful each per day, you could split it into two portions if you wanted too. Will they come ready weaned onto veg do you know, also do you know what pellets they are currently eating...some are better than others but they will need consistancy in their first few weeks in a new home.
