Thumper has got diarrhea

Post by Rebecca on Fri Aug 28, 2009 12:37 pm

Thumper has got diarrhea. I know it can be fatal ect but my mom keeps saying he is going to be alright and is refusing to take him to the vets. He is acting out of sorts and just keeps leaking runny poo. I dont know what I made this post for because my mom isnt going to change her mind. I just wanted to see if there anything I can do to help him. What is the worse that can happen to him? Can he actually die? Maybe your replies and those of other websites can make her see sense.

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Thumper, yes diorrhea in rabbits is very serious and your bunny really needs to see a vet, sadly rabbits do die with diorrhea if it's not treated, have you chenged Thumpers food or anything, have you given him anything different to eat lately?, does he have lots of hay?

No, I havent changed his food lately, he has had the same as usual. Yesterday he did have his fortnightly treat of carrot and his weekly feed of cabbage, grapes and a slice of apple. He has access to Timothy hay all day long.

OK, it could be the vegetables and fruit that are doing it, don't give him anymore vegetables or fruit and give him plenty of hay and fresh water, what does his poo's look like?, is it very runny diorrhea? or is it just soft?, can you photograph it?

Do you think your mum would take him to the vet for you?,

His poo is like water. Its completley liquid. My mom is refusing to take him the vet as she doesnt really care about him. In fact she hates him so when he is ill she celebrates.

I know its upsetting but im sure she doesnt feel that way about him. How old are you? Can you take him yourself?

As harsh as it seems perhaps say to your mum that is an offence not to take a sick pet to the vet, as this is very true. harsh, but true. We once found a stray bunny which has terrible diahorrea and it died before the RSPCA got here, now that is an extreme case and bunny probably had alot more wrong with her that what we first thought but it is very important thumper see's a vet.

Oh, I think you should ask your mum to take him because he is in need of help and it would be wrong not to take him to the vet when he's ill.

I can't believe your mum hates him, that is shocking and awful. He really needs to see a vet hunny. You need to show her these posts and tell her that by refusing him veterinary treatment she is participating in animals cruelty. when you allow your child to have an animal, you take on the responsibility for that animal. As such she has a duty to ensure that animal does not suffer.

I am very concerned about your little bunny sweetie. Please let us know how he is. If you don't get him to a vet he may die.
