Rex weight Empty Rex weight

Post by Vince the bunny Tue Jan 18, 2011 7:30 pm

I weighed Hazel the other day (in a roasting tin on the kitchen scales Suspect , the only way I could safely contain her!) Anyway, she weighs 5.5lbs. I thought she was tubby which is why I weighed her, but I've researched that she should weigh around 8lbs. Now I'm worried she is under weight but she looks very cuddly to me, not at all underweight. What do you think? Sheis a standard, not mini rex. Thank you Rex weight 913859

In a roasting tin Laughing She must have been one worried bunny! Well if she looks cuddly and she is well covered I wouldn't worry about it at all.

She's so soft in the head, I could have poured oil on her and popped her in the oven and she wouldn't have flinched!!

Ha ha, great way to weigh her Thumbs Up

I'd agree with Charlotte - if she looks plump enough and her bones aren't sticking out, she is probably a healthy weight. While she might be a standard rex, she could be naturally a little smaller. Averages don't represent the natural fluxes within the breeds.

The thing is you can never be sure that they are exactly what they say on the tin Laughing She may look like a Standard Rex, but if there's any dwarf or small bunny genes in there, lurking around, she may well not be pure. Stewie is meant to be a standard Rex, but is somewhere between a Mini and standard.

You should be able to feel the ribs and spine when you stroke her. If so, she's ok Smile
