Feeding rabbits Empty Feeding rabbits

I was told that an egg cup full of pellets is good for one rabbit, I just wanted to check, is that one egg cup full per day? And do baby rabbits get given more pellets?

I was just going to say that it depends on the age of the bunny, if they are babies then they need more pellets to help them grow but if they are adult bunnies then an egg cup full is enough but it depends on the bunny really

Just be sure to supplement this with plenty of nice hay.

See with mine, I give them a few handfuls of pellets in a bowl in the morning and that's it.....Thistle will eat anything and everything, he eats hay dusk till dawn but if Luna has too much of say pellets or fresh greens, she won't eat hardly any hay so I have to be careful with her. That's just an example of how it could be different for individual rabbits. They can be quite fussy with hay, once again Thistle will eat anything, but Luna will only eat the cheapest hay from a local petshop Rolling Eyes, anything else and she turns her nose up at it!

Because they need lots and lots of fibrous bulk in their digestive system. They operate a push pull system, where they need to keep their system moving all the time! If they eat a lot of pellets, it fills them up too quickly whereas they have to eat much more hay to be full. Also, they need hay to wear down their teeth which never stop growing.

Mine get 3/4 of a mug just now because it is cold just now, but in the summer they go down to starvation rations of a teacup between them and tons of hay.

It is always a good idea to get your buns weighed when they go for their vaccinations just so you have an idea if they are losing or gaining weight.

I made the mistake of overfeeding, there were lots of their (can't remember what they are called, the poos they eat) funny poos everywhere. When I reduced the pellets the funny poos stopped appearing and the normal round ones were plentiful!

I also learned that if I give them too many greens their home smells of horse/cow muck Shocked When I reduced the greens the smell went away.

I'm on a very steep learning curve Feeding rabbits 497709

Oh also, their wee can be red sometimes. DH came in the house in a right panic after seeing red wee in the litter tray after one of the girls had been speyed. He thought something was terribly wrong and they were weeing blood luckily I had noticed this before and read up on rabbit wee so I knew it was ok.
