How much should I be feeding?
Hi there. More advice needed please. My little bunnies are about 13 weeks now and I was just wondering how much I should be feeding them everyday of there pellets. Banjo gets a full shot glass every night and they have been getting about 3/4 every night. Is this enough? They also have an unlimited supply of hay in their hutches. Also is it ok to start introducing veg to them now? They really enjoy munching on the grass when there in their run.
Thanks again
Thanks again

Hiya,
I think you would be okay to start introducing a little veg now....in small amounts.
Im not an expert on feeding baby buns though so hopefully someone who knows more than me will be along soon. x x

Re: How much should I be feeding?
Not sure about pellets for such young buns, mine get handful morning and night with teatime veg, but they are 2 and 4 year old.
Am sure at this age you can start them on veg but i would definately wait for someone more experienced to come and be a bit more helpful
Whats the names of your buns, are they male/female?
Piccies would be good

Re: How much should I be feeding?
When Tigger was a baby I used to give her a handful in the morning and the same in the evening.
I know how vague a handful sounds so aim to cover the bottom of the dish. The amount you are feeding sounds right.
A lot of places say to feed them unlimited pellets, but as I learnt that isn't the best advice to follow. Make sure they have unlimited hay to snack on, and if you want to introduce veg do it minimally

I agree with everytning you've put there. It's a good time to slowly introduce veg. Personally, I'd start with herbs, basil, mint, corriander, then add in a veg, in increasing amounts, and stick with that veg (say spring green) for a week, if there's no adverse reaction (like runny poos), add another veg, and so on. I'd avoid broccolli heads at the mo, but give small amounts of stalk/stem.
There's a briliant resource on diet on the HRS site http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html

Ah yes, forgot about herbs. If I had known earlier, I'd have started Tigger on them as they're gentler on the tummy. They are what got her going after her spey.
