Digging Empty Digging

Post by alicia Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:46 am

Just little old me again asking questions Laughing When I looked after 2 netherland dwarf rabbits they didn't dig much at all, and these rabbits are what made my Mum let me get them (she used to think most rabbits bit people and dug the garden up) I am worried that when I get my own rabbit, he'll dig out the run. I don't want him to get out because our garden isn't secure and also if he digs holes in the garden my Mum won't be very happy about it. Do you think lots of things in his run would keep him busy enough so he wouldn't dig? I was thinking of putting lots of toys and tunnels and things in the run and also making a dig box. Would these keep him busy so he might not want to dig? Or would he probably still dig in the run anyway? I was going to put bricks all round the outside of the run, would this prevent him from digging out do you think?

Is the run going to be on grass or concete?
You can put something like paving slabs around the inside or outside edges to stop them getting there, but a dig box should work too. BTW, it's usually the females that dig the burrows Smile

My Jacks a digger, he LOOOVVEEESSS it....We found A HUGE cardboard box and put TONS of hay and stuff, so he could dig in that. It keeps him happy. So a dig box could be a good idea. If you put the run on like....tarmac or something over the grass, he wouldn't be able to burrow. Then hay over the top maybe? xx

Thank you Smile Unfortunately the hutch and run will have to be on grass, I don't have a patio in my garden. I will try putting some slabs round the edge of the run to stop him digging out and get a dig box for him.
