Online petition to help Canadian rabbits
Some members may have heard in the media about the University of Victoria in Canada and its strategy for ridding its grounds of rabbits. These are rabbits that have been released by uni students, and have of course bred, and the campus was overrun.
There was a very intense campaign involving politicians and the media whose aim it was to persuade the university to allow the rabbits to be trapped and given to rescues.. At the 11th hour, agreement was reached and all that could be trapped were, and they were transported to various rescues in Canada and the USA.
Now the university says it has found more rabbits in its grounds - 8 to date - which it is counting as newly-released and it intends to kill them rather than allow the rescues which are still willing to take them to undertake another round of trapping.
Details are here http://www.tracs-bc.ca/uvicbun.html
If you believe that the rescues should be allowed to help these rabbits, there is a link in the newsletter to an online petition. Please sign and circulate it - along with this message - add it to your Facebook, Twitter, whatever other means you have of highlighting the plight of these blameless rabbits.
