I've been thinking
About changing my bunnys housing to perhaps something like this
Obviously I would get a bigger one than this.
What do you think?

Re: I've been thinking
I could get a litter tray for them plus there would be loads of room for them to chill out in at night

Re: I've been thinking
I think they are literally dog cages and come in a variety of sizes. I don't see why it wouldn't be ok as I'm sure they've plenty of space to run about

Re: I've been thinking
Halloooo!! Mine live in a dog crate ^_^, except I have one which doesn't have wire on the bottom, just a metal tray. I'm sure you'd be able to find one online the same....I've put lino on the bottom and then just cover that with newspaper ^_^ It's really good cus the doors are massive too so you're not trying to cram your arms in there when you get stuff in and out haha
Mines like this....
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Brands-D804-Dog-Crate/dp/B002PX5AI2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1300815949&sr=8-3
I'm not sure of the size of mine exactly, but it's meant for large dogs like Alsations etc. so plenty of room! I've also attatched a trixie run to the front of it so they get that extra bit of room when I'm not in and they can't free range all the time unfortunately . I could take a photo of my set up if it helps?

Re: I've been thinking
Oo that looks perfect and it doesn't cost too much either. I shall get to start with as money is limited and to also see what they think of it but I think the will love it a lot more than there current cages. What do you use for water Lily? Bowl/Bottle? I thought that fountain thing looked pretty good.

Re: I've been thinking
My old dog crate had a plastic base that slid inside on the bottom to cover the mesh, I also had it on a giant square of tarpaulin to protect the carpet from urine though as it does tend to work its way out!
Re: I've been thinking
Yeah that fountain looks good! Atm we have a bottle which Thistle uses and that's attached to the cage and there's a bowl in the trixie run which Luna drinks from. Our bottle doesn't leak though, so maybe that fountain would be a good idea! The bowl we have is pretty heavy, big and shallow so they can't knock it over . They will defo love it! More space for them to stretch out in and to add toys etc. Also because of the height of dog crates you can easily add shelves and things for them to climb on. So much better than any rabbit cage I've seen and had

I know! Once I started to see luna quickly out grow her cage I researched to find out what would be good. And dog crates just seemed perfect for our situation. I wish I knew from the start, I would've saved a lot of money Are you going to try and sell your old cages do you think once you get started on the dog crate idea?

You can even put ledges in the really tall ones to make them multi-layered and some people also attach a pen to the door to give extra exercise space. They're pretty versatile, plus they fold away for storage when not in use (mine is under the stairs somewhere at the moment).

Re: I've been thinking
When I had Rosie indoors, I just used a puppy enclosure/play pen. I put tapaulin on the carpet, covered that in newspaper and carpet tiles and the pen came with a mesh cover to stop her getting out (not that it did mind, she can get out of anything, she's murder!!) The pen cost £20 and was quite roomy.

Re: I've been thinking
we decided against dog crate as there are no plastic sides and mine spay sometimes.... even though they are toilet trained they still do this at times Im not sure if its cos they are boys...
We have a Marchioro its Largest one u can buy at £150 each set us back a lot for two of them... they are on the floor . Dimensions: 118 cm x 58 cm x 51 cm (L x W x H).
We have got on great with them, boys love them and often choose to be in their beds . We leave the doors open mostly, they are covered in fur so they dont catch their feet when they jump out.. .The only reason we were looking recently for other beds(dog crates) is I was getting concerned with their age that they might get arthritis and it would be easier to not always need to jump in + out... If this happens we will have to go with a dog crate and find a way to cover the edges with plastic.
I wish someone would invent a marchioro one where the door opened from the base so they dont need to jump out.. .
