Daisy choking.... Empty Daisy choking....

Post by wizbit Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:25 pm

Just had a really scary experience..... gave Bertie and Daisy some carrot pellets (I had broken them up as they were quite long) went out of the room, came back and Daisy was choking!! She was sitting there with a big pool of fluid in front of her and choked up pellets next to her.

It has happened before in the past but this was really frightening tonight. Hubby and I managed to massage her throat and I syringed her a little water and she's fine now but it was awful. Embarassed

I have heard quite a few stories like this just lately on rabbits choking on pellets, that's why I like SS as they are a nice big pellet.

Thank you all for your replies. Daisy is, thankfully, absolutely fine after her ordeal but I would say to anyone, please be careful when feeding the carrot or apple pellets. They are really long and thin and even though I had broken them up into small pieces, she still choked.

I don't want to think about what could have happened. I do know of cases where people have actually lost their buns when this happened. Sad

Glad she's ok, I woudl have been well scared. It's interesting, because anne says that big pellets are not good for teeth, and that they should be long and thin - I will address this with her and see what she says.

Hope Daisy's ok now Smile

Might be worth contacted PAH and letting them know about this problem as it is maybe something they are unaware of.

Glad she is OK. What a horrible shock for you and her. Hugs Hugs
