Teeth
I read on another post about dentals and I'm astounded by how often some of your buns need them!
Thumper has never been a big hay eater. I know you will probably find that hard to believe but she's not, and never has been.
And in the 10+ years I've had her, she's only had 2. And even then, one was done during her spay for good measure.
And the vets say she has perfect teeth!
Does anyone else have buns that don't seem to need frequent dentals?

Re: Teeth
I think it is established the dental problems can come about because of many factors and not eating enough roughage is just one of them. Some rabbits have problem teeth because of genetics. Breeding to accentuate a particular feature such as lops with their squished face or nethies and their miniature sizing causes problems which are then passed on through the chain. Ensuring these animals eat hay does help but the problem is something they may have had from birth.
Official advice is, where possible, choose a rabbit that looks closest to a wild rabbit (in physical shape, not colouring), although even this is no guarantee.

Re: Teeth
That's a very good point Nickie
Sometimes I wish I knew more about where she came from, parentage etc. She's my little mystery!

Re: Teeth
I definitely think a lot of it is genetics. My Josephine is a minim lop with a very squashed face. She has dental problems, and I have managed to reduce the frequency of her dental operations by forcing her to eat more hay, but I can never fully reduce them.
I suspect you just have a lucky bunny who is not genetically predisposed to heaps of dentals.

Re: Teeth
My three lops have never had to have a dental, but they are still fairly young so maybe a problem will develop later in life?
They dont eat that much hay between them either, maybe im just lucky?!
