Q re post spay recovery
Its been 4 days since Skyes spay now. Shes looking good, back to her normal diet, wound is nice and clean. Would it be ok to allow her some free range time for half hour or so? Shes getting quite destructive in her pen now!

Re: Q re post spay recovery
I know it horrible seeing them cooped up bless, next door had hers done 2 days ago and he has been out in the back yard for half our per day but only when dry so nothing sticks to the wound that could cause infection. If yours is a house but I wouldnt see a problem?
Re: Q re post spay recovery
Thanks. Ill just make sure she stays on the floor and doesnt belt up, down, on and off the sofas like she usually does! Ill see what others say first, just to be sure

Re: Q re post spay recovery
I would let her out in the house. If I remember rightly (it was a long time ago!) I was told to keep thumper somewhere quiet and enclosed for 24hrs.
But like you say, I would try my best not to let her jump up on things. I would also try keep other buns away from her, so as not to get her too exciteable.
Just my opinion though

Re: Q re post spay recovery
gahh, i dont know what to do!
My vet would say its fine to let her go back to doing normal things.
Someone on another forum said i shouldnt let her out, because she will still be healing internally, and she could hurt herself. I see what this person is saying, but it dont think its fair to keep her cooped up when she feels fine in herself.
If its anything like people, some exercise might do her a bit of good? Uhh, i hate making decisions, esp when there are so many opinions!

Re: Q re post spay recovery
I reckon if you trust urself enough to make sure she doesn't do anything silly then I would let her out. Can you confine her to a small area? So she can walk around but not have the opportunity to do anything silly?

Re: Q re post spay recovery
I think it comes down to knowing your bun. When Flo was done she was still properly mad (as opposed to a now when she is just a bit bonkers). She used to view up as out so letting her out with a stomach scar was just not an option. She spent 2 days in her carrier and then a further 5 in an indoor cage. She worked out what was going on and just slept! Then when she was out she jumped on everything for the hell of it.

I agree with cheryl'n'bruce'flo, you know your rabbit better than anyone!!! I would say letting her out to stretch her legs for an hour is fine, but maybe confine an area (away from the sofa) so she can't hurt herself leaping up! As long as you are with her for the whole time she is out i'd say go for it!!!

Re: Q re post spay recovery
Well it will be a week on Monday. I might just wait until ive finished work this weekend and let her have a run around on the hall. Theres nothing she can jump on in there, but it doesnt matter where i put her, she can binky anywhere! She even has little vertical leaps in the 4ft pen shes in!

Re: Q re post spay recovery
I would give her a bit more space as they do heal very quickly and she probably feels more active and frustrated now.
I generally kept my girls in an inside hutch for the first few days and then let them back outside if they seemed perky and active.

Re: Q re post spay recovery
Thank you Your posts are reassuring. I let her out this morning for half an hour while i had my breakfast. Ill probably find something to block the stairs off with and let her have a good explore on the landing! She was a very good girl this morning though, we didnt have any tantrums when it was time to go back to her pen
Ive really bonded with her this week.
