My Late Bunny Stinky Empty My Late Bunny Stinky

Post by bunniesRsweethearts Wed Sep 07, 2011 4:13 pm

First I want to thank the administrators of this sweet site for allowing me to join.

Now I am not from the UK, I am from Long Island, New York ( USA), but I have been on other sites ( not bunny ones though) from the UK and must say the people have been wonderful. Plus my lineage is part English, so that is good.

I would like to share my story about my beloved late, big boy bunny who I named Stinky, he just died this past May 25 ( 2011). When he died I cried and cried, I can still cry for him. He was seriously the most unique and funny and friendly and affectionate rabbit.

He showed up in our backyard 8 years ago one February day ( there was hard snow and ice on all the lawns). Believe it, or not that bunny ran into our yard up to my, then, 12 year old nephew who was racing remote controlled cars on the snow and ice with his friend. It was amazing that he was not frightened off by the zipping cars and noise. My mother said to bring him in the house. I came home from shopping to see this beautiful, I later found out, American Giant Chinchilla rabbit sitting in a big plastic bin with a window screen on top and a couple books on top of the screen.

At first i was not sure I wanted him, I was a big cat lover and had no pets since nasty dogs killed both of my cats in our yard three years apart from each other and then my dog had to be put to sleep 2 months before my last cat was killed. I had a lot of sadness and decided I never wanted to go through grief like that again so decided to not have any more pets.

But Stinky changed all that, I soon grew to love my bunny and decided Stinky was a good name for him , I really think it's a cute name.

Stinky was one of a kind. He would run up to anyone who went into the playroom, where he lived ( it is a nice long big room where he ran free, though at night I put him in his cage, he had chewing and pooping and peeing issues if left unattended that long). People were always shocked when he would run, or hop right over to them, the guy was so friendly. If there were groups of people, say sitting on chairs and the couch, or even just standing and talking, Stinky had to get right in the center of things, often just hanging out and many times grooming his long ears ( he looked like a girl combing her long luxurious locks), but he loved being around people.

And he was a very funny bunny. One time I was on the daybed in the playroom, laying on my tummy talking to some guy ( I forget who it was), but Stinky suddenly jumped up on the bed, got on my back and started bouncing up and down on me. I was cracking up, it was sooo funny! He had never done that before, and he was really attacking my back with his paws, sooo funny, I turned over making him get off of my body and I put him back down on the floor, reprimanding him and continued talking to the guy, well Stinky jumped back up and again was furiously jumping on my back, it was like he was a jealous suitor, it was very funny! I finally had to stand up and talk since he was trying to get back up to bounce on me yet again.

Another antic he did was one night I fell asleep on the couch, I was so groggy laying there, but I felt something bounce on my tummy, I could barely open my eyes, I was just spent, but I did get them open to see a big bunny butt looking right at me, it lifted and whoosh Stinky sprayed me! I was stunned, yet laughed because it was, well, crazy! And I am positive he knew exactly what he was doing, that brat! Haha!

Stinky was unique in other ways too, he used to let me hold him on his back, like a baby, sometimes I would feed him a carrot while he was in that position and he looked like a big furry baby with a bottle err carrot, awww he looked so darn cute. One day I got the bright idea to go buy an actual baby bottle and fill it with water and see if he would drink it. I could not wait to feed my big "baby", I held him in my arms, and put the bottle to his cute mouth and nope he was not going for that, no way, and to show his disdain for being bottle fed he grabbed hold of the bottle top and chewed right through it making water spill all over him and me, smart guy, that bunny! But for some reason he did love being held like a baby, hmmm.

He also loved when I gave him "rubbies" I would get him up on the daybed and I would say, "Rubbies? Rubbies?" and would rub both sides of his body back and forth, back and forth, giving him a massage. Then I would run to the other end of the bed and rub my hands together, like I was giving rubbies and I would say, "Come here! Come here!" and he would tear over to me at warp speed to get his "rubbies" this would go on for long periods of time. And it wasa so funny to see him lower his ears and tear over to me to get rubbed.

There are so many things Stinky did that were funny, interesting, unique and sweet. I will never forget him and miss him so much. He was just such a wonderful and special pet.

Now the morning he died something very spiritual happened. I knew he was ill, he was weak and I put a pink towel down for him to lay on, he laid on his side, he rarely did that. I decided to pray to St Francis ( the patron saint of animals) and asked him to please not have Stinky suffer and to go quickly. Amazingly as I prayed, Stinky put his paws together and moved them up and down ( I swear it looked like he was praying), then he moved his head up and down like he was nodding. It was so unusual to see something like that happen, some people might think that was just a coincidence, but it gave me hope and peace and that is always a good thing. I went upstairs to get something and when I came downstairs my beautiful, big boy Stinky had died. It was just incredibly sad. I buried him under the window of the playroom and put these pretty shells and rocks I had found while walking on beaches around here, I also sprinkled some scented oil on him in the towel I wrapped and buried him in and it is funny the scent wafted up through the ground for a few days.

Now in Aug , around the 13th I decided to go buy a baby bunny, my family and I wet to a breeder and I chose the most gorgeous 8 week old Lop Eared bunny baby boy, he was gorgeous and tiny, I named him Sweetie, I was thrilled to have this little baby boy bunny, but sadly he started acting oddly after a few days, he stopped eating, was lethargic and had what looked like a mucous sac that he was trying to pass, plus he when he first came here made the teeniest little poops ( I thought they were cute, but when I took him to a vet who specializes in rabbits the vet asked about his feces and asked what size they were and I showed by putting my fingers together she said that was not a good sign, that even those were far too small). She told me the prognosis was not good given his bloated tummy and his poor fecal output, etc, but she gave me some hope, she said there was a 50/50 chance he could survive, well it cost over $300.00 and sadly he was too ill, so the day after I had brought him to the vet they euthanized him. I cried so much ( I was embarrassed by all the crying, I cried when I first took him to the vet and heard he only had a 50/50 chance and I cried terribly when I went to pick up his body. They were very nice to me there and sympathetic, but I hate showing emotion like that in front of strangers.) I buried Sweetie right next to Stinky, and one of my sisters said maybe they were playing together in the afterlife,k that was such a sweet thing to say and a really nice thought.

I called the breeder and she said she would return my money ( $60.00), or give me a new bunny. I opted for the new bunny and unbelievably he got sick, he was 4 months old and I got him this past Sun ( Aug 4) and on Mon realized he had not defecated, so I called the breeder she said to bring him back that he was sick. I brought him back and told her she could keep the money, she was so kind and honest and said no way she would keep my money, she wanted me to have my money back, I told her I just could not go through another bad event with a bunny, she understood.

Now I wonder if I was only meant to have Stinky, since the two I chose were ill, either that, or for some reason I was attracted, unconsciously, to ill bunnies...but I told the breeder, in the spring, next year I want to try again..my mother seems to think bunnies born in the spring are healthier and stronger that summer born bunnies.

But who knew bunnies could tug at ones heartstrings?? I guess it makes sense since they are quite gentle creatures, you figure they are not predators, they do not kill other creatures, they are just gentle, well, sweethearts.

Post by KatieB Wed Sep 07, 2011 10:43 pm

hi,

So sorry to hear you lost your beautiful babies. Stinky sounded wonderful.

Sorry to hear that your bunnies from the breeder did not survive. You must have been heartbroken.

You should perhaps post a thread about what has happened in another part of the forum (as I think its nice to keep this a lovely tribute to them) and we can perhaps help you with choosing a nice healthy bun next time.

Bunnies really are special little creatures, so very fragile and so very special.

One of our members said a little while ago that they were Angels with Cotton Tails - and I think she was absolutely right.

Thank you for your sympathy and yes I was very sad over the babies ( I don't know what happened to the 4 month old, perhaps he was just suffering severe separation anxiety and is doing better among all his bunny buddies).

And Stinky was an amazing bunny!! I was so blessed that he came into my life! And everyone who met him loved him. Every Halloween I liked opening the door holding him and the children would ohh and ahh over him, saying he was so beautiful and so big and asking to pet him, and Stinky just loved all that attention. He was definitely one of a kind!

Oops I misunderstood what this forum was about, I thought it was about deceased bunnies and memories of them, sorry.

I may go back and get another bunny from the breeder soon, or get an older one from a rescue group ( at thevet's office they work with a rabbit rescue group and wanted me to adopt this light brown dwarf bunny they had up for adoption, but he was 5 years old and I said I wanted to have a bunny a long time; they told me dwarf bunnies live longer than bigger breeds, maybe I will go back and see him again, but I was disappointed he was not as affectionate as Stinky was), or I may just wait until next Easter and buy a baby from the breeder,, she is such a beautiful looking and sweet, kind hearted, sensitive to others, very moral woman, I really like her and her bunnies certainly are beautiful I just picked sick ones, why, I don't know.

Yes that member is right on the mark bunnies are angels with cotton tails, they are so precious and adorable.

My Late Bunny Stinky Empty Re: My Late Bunny Stinky

I am sorry to hear of your babies not making it - baby buns can have very delicate constitutions.

We are very pro-rescue here and would urge you to go down that route. And actually you get a better idea of temperament with an older rescue bun than a baby. My Flo was both a rescue and a baby when I got her and she is just a bit mad and doesn't want to be touched and yet I have done everything right and she isn't scared of me and generally she trusts me, but she does not want my touch. So a baby does not mean a friendlier bun. And I have seen buns in rescue that are desperate for attention and will lick anyone who stops to talk to them. Your vet is right, generally the smaller the bun the longer they live, but they often also come with big personalities. Some breeds are also considered to be more placid than others. The general opinion seems to be that the giants are very calm and the nethies are very feisty. I would keep trying with the rescues as the right bun will come up for you, and be prepared to build a relationship with a bun - most buns do not like being held and as prey animals it takes a while for them to trust humans but with time you can build a good relationship with them.

Thank you for your words about the baby bunnies. The first one I bought, he was just so gorgeous, he was a Lop Ear and was mostly white with patches of oranges, blacks, and greys scattered about on his teeny cute body and on his ears it looked like freckles. He had black around both eyes, hehe he looked like he had eyeliner on. I felt so awful when he got so ill, I thought I did something wrong, but I only had him altogether 5 days and I took him to the vet on the 4th day and she assured me it was nothing I did. Like you wrote she too said baby bunnies are very vulnerable to illnesses and stress.

You are very informed and right , I bet adopting a baby does not ensure a friendlier rabbit.

I am agree with you that older rescue bunnies are so grateful to get a home that they really are very affectionate and probably know they are getting a good break..you figure Stinky showed up in our yard that winter day and he was fully grown, I have no idea how old he was, my nephew thinks he was old back then and with rabbits I read they can be very lively even into old age and then one day they seem to age..I don't even know where Stinky came from, but after him two other, but much smaller bunnies showed up in our neighborhood and other neighbors took them in, I wonder if some jerk just abandoned them, deciding they no longer wanted them..I did not see any flyers about lost bunnies. But maybe they escaped, all I know is Stinky never tried to escape here, I could leave the outdoor doors open and he never even tried going outside. A good friend of mine stopped by and the door was open he asked me if Stinky was going to try to escape I said he never did, and my friend said, " Yeah, why would it he has it made here." Haha everyone used to say that I did spoil him with affection, attention, toys and treats and food.

And see Stinky was the most affectionate bunny and he loved being held, ( like you wrote some bunnies do not like being held, he was the opposite, he loved it, I used to hold him like a baby on his back, and also up on my chest with his head near my head cupping his bottom and his legs dangling down and I also held him like he was sitting in my arms..the more I read about bunnies I realize he was very unique. And he loved licking my hands frantically ( hmm my brother in law said it was for salt, I like to think it was Stinky's way of kissing me, plus I had salt licks for him so he did get plenty of salt) .but that is sweet about the rescue bunnies you have met who lick everyone , I bet you are right they are desperate for attention and I bet want to be loved. It is so adorable when bunnies lick you.

Maybe I will try the rabbit rescue group at the vet's office ( she displays the rabbits she gets in a huge beautiful cage in the waiting room.) But in a few weeks since I still am sad over these last two bunnies and not over Stinky at all.

BTW your bunnies are sooo pretty!

Your brother in law is quite wrong - rabbits lick to show affection not to get salt. When you bond rabbits it is when the grooming starts that you really begin to calm down about the whole thing as it shows they are beginning to show affection for each other. If I sit and talk to Bruce when he is sat on the table he will give my nose a lick, or maybe my elbow. And he will often lick my face when I am trying to do my pilates exercises which isn't so helpful.

It is a really good way to get a rescue bun.
Quite often bunnies brought from breeders can be poorly, they are often over-bred, and not kept in the best of conditions. This may not be the case with your lady, but it is worth bearing in mind.

Each bun is different and whichever bun you get will be completely different from the gorgeous Stinky. I dont think any two buns are the same, which is a lovely thing.

You know Cheryl'n'Bruce'Flo I suspected bunny licks were affection, and this is cute and touching the Lop Ear bunny I adopted, who unfortunately had to be put to sleep, well the third day, or so he was here he licked my hand like Stinky used to do and I told my brother in law that and that was when he said that is to get salt ( pssst it kind of hurt my feelings when he said that, it's like he was saying Sweetie ( that sweet baby Lop Ear bunny) did not see me as maybe his new human mommy, but rather saw me as one huge salt lick, heeeeyyyy not nice!

And hahaha about Bruce licking you when you do your Pilates work outs, ...Stinky used to show me a certain, ahem, kind of affection when I used to do my floor exercises..I know this is a family site, so ahh err let us just say he was wildly attracted to my arm, haha. The first time he did that to me, all with the most serious look on his face I started laughing so hard I almost choked!! And that is too sweet Bruce licks your nose and elbow, Bruce sure sounds like a charmer!! Stinky was charming too!

My Late Bunny Stinky Empty Re: My Late Bunny Stinky

Post by bunniesRsweethearts Fri Sep 09, 2011 12:26 am

Aww thank you SarahJane for those sweet words..I just feel so incredibly honored Stinky chose our yard to run into and decided he liked living here
( the next door neighbor told us he first was living under his deck and they were feeding him lettuce, but i still think it is so cool and weird he ran over into our yard with those little cars zooming all over and such noise they made)..and this is pretty amazing about my nephew and Stinky. One day I came home to find Stinky on the second step of the stairs that go from the playroom to the kitchen, I was amazed and was telling everyone about it, so my nephew heard and he told me he taught Stinky to do that, wow I had no idea a bunny could be so smart like that to not only be able to go up the stairs on his own, but to remember how to do it..and this is crazy I used to think maybe he was my late father reincarnated because my father was a very intelligent man and quite humorous and Stinky really was bright and funny too and my father was so sociable and so was Stinky and Stinky really loved my mother as well my father did too.

Case in point about Stinky's smarts and humor, okay a guy online sent me a pic of himself, if you know what I mean, ( hey if he wanted to send it who was I to say no, hahaha) so I had it under my bed with other papers I saved from online as well as I have some craft items under there in tin boxes ( beads, ribbons, little unpainted wooden figurines etc). One day I went in my room and I saw a paper on the floor and I swear Stinky had chewed off a certain area ( yeeeeouch) of the guy, but how funny is that, he only chewed /shredded the pic in that area? And he did not touch any other papers only that one. I tell you I am so grateful for all these laughs Stinky gave me, they certainly brighten my day when I think of them. I wrote down a lot so I would not forget them and I plan on making a scrapbook of Stinky too.

Ahhh see I live On Long Island, I bet you would still love where I live, though I bet you would really want to go to NYC and you know I live only about a 45 minute or so drive from NYC but I never go there, but as a little girl I used to go all the time to visit my Dad in his office and on school trips we would go to like Lincoln Center, The Smithsonian Museum etc. When I win the big lottery I plan on going to NYC a lot, now I just don't have the money at least not the kind of money I would need to do all the things I would like like go to museums, art galleries and shop shop shop! I hear there are some very cool thrift stores in NYC.

Well if you come to LI you can stay here at my home, we have 3 unused bedrooms, but only if you promise you are not some axe murderer or something evil like that, haha! But Long Island is beautiful, we have lots of really nice beaches and we have the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Long Island Sound on the other ( I live closer to the Sound and I love the Sound it is placid water). And we do not live too far from the LIRR Long Island Rail Road, so you could get to the city via that way, that's the way I would go and when others have visited here they have gone to the city that way. And heyyyyy you could also come here and see if our bunnies on LI have more attitude, haha, than your bunnies in the UK..I know you guys are far more composed than a lot of us Long Islanders, or as we pronounce it Lawng Guylanders, so maybe your bunnies have a more laid back attitude than ours as well.

And you know I would love to visit England, ahh those stone houses I see are so beautiful and I would love to see Stonehenge up close ( though I read it is fenced off now) and I would love to see Buckingham Palace and the Beefeaters ( I just saw a video of some American guy pestering a poor guard as he was doing his marching, the guy was mocking him and imitating him as he walked, he just kept annoying the guard, so the guard, totally fed up ran over and clocked the guy, he like punched him in the head and told him to cut it out or words like that haha I got a good laugh from that! But England looks sooo cooool!! And I do like a lot of your tv shows!! I like the comedies like Absolutely Fabulous and Keeping Up Appearances ( It's bouquet, not bucket!" Haha I love her! I know those are older shows, but they show them here on PBS and I used to like the comedy of the woman married to the alien guy I forget it's name, they never show that anymore, but it was funny and one of my nephews is a HUGE Dr Who fan. So remember let me know if you need a place to stay if you want to go to the city.

My Late Bunny Stinky Empty Re: My Late Bunny Stinky

Post by bunniesRsweethearts Fri Sep 09, 2011 1:20 am

You know KatieB my neighbors took me there to get the second bunny, after Sweetie was put down and when I told them the next day I had to take this new one ( I named him Sable) back they did say that the cages were not the best looking and there were piles of poop under the cages on the earth and my gosh my mother, when we went to get Sable ( the 4 month old who did not poop), she yelled out, "If one rabbit is sick, all the rabbits are. These are sick rabbits" I could had killed her. But maybe I just was attracted to the sick ones...too funny my neighbor ( the one who went with me to the breeder) just called, that is why it took me so long to write this ( we were talking on the phone, and as you can tell by my writing haha I talk A LOT!!! I am sure her poor ear was burning. And she said she felt maybe the breeder had too many bunnies and was overwhelmed and just could not possibly keep up with which ones were getting sick She too said baby bunnies are so vulnerable, she is such a sweet woman, my neighbor, she only called to let me know I did nothing wrong to have had these 2 sick baby bunnies, she called a couple friends of hers who know about animals and they said maybe the place where the bunnies were were not as healthy a they could be, but how kind is she to call to make me feel better? She must know me too well since I did wonder if I did something wrong.

You are so right I bet each bunny is different, man I have to not hope to get Stinky's clone or I will be disappointed.

I think next week I will call the vet to see if they have any new rescue bunnies, the one they wanted me to take, he just seemed too skittish, I really want a mellow one, but maybe he was just nervous ...the assistant there did say his owner had him for 5 years, moved to a new apartment and was told no pets allowed so she dumped him off, that was mean, especially if he had bonded to her...the receptionist there told me she would live in her car with her pet ( she has ferrets) rather than give them up, wow she is a true animal lover! Ohh I will call them and if he's still there I will go see if he wants to be with me, I just don't want a bunny that won't like me, that would be awful and to be honest I get along super well with most animals right from the start, so if one acts stand offish or nervous I can tell we won't be bonding at all, but hey maybe he was feeling rejected, it is awful his owner gave him up like that, you'd think she would had made sure her next apartment allowed pets that does seem odd. And I bet he was used to her and then BOOM here he is in some vet's office no longer in familiar surroundings, maybe that was why he was scared.

And I agree it is beautiful that no 2 bunnies are the same, but aww I still want another Stinky he was pretty amazing.

But I appreciate your rabbit wisdom!! Thank you. Very Happy

Your neighbour is completely right, this wasnt your fault. It sounds to me like this was not a good breeder. I feel really sorry for the bunnies that she has.

You do of course need to find the right bunny for you, but you should also bear in mind that there is something wonderful about taking a bun that is frightened and unhappy and turning their lives around. Sure it takes a lot of time and a lot of patience.

If you are not sure about this little guy, is there a animal rescue centre nearby? It might be worth giving them a call.

aww ive only just seen all this, your story made me cry!!! Stinky sounded amazing and so well loved! so sorry about the next two buns, i can't even imagine how heart breaking that must have been! Maybe don't get another bun from that breeder! try a rescue, as the bunnies there will have been fully checked over and you will know they are healthy!!!

And licking is most defiantly an affection thing!! I was also originally told its a salt thing, so i bought Buttons a mineral wheel and a salt lick and he barely touches them!! He runs over to me, licks my face and then my hands and then forces his head under my hand as if to say "come on mum, ive groomed you, my turn!!!" Laughing

I hope you find another loving bunny! Don't worry about a bunny not liking you, if you show them love they will love you back!!! Smile

My Late Bunny Stinky Empty Re: My Late Bunny Stinky

Post by bunniesRsweethearts Fri Sep 09, 2011 2:34 pm

Thank you Katieb, the more I hear it wasn't my fault that the bunnies were ill, the better I feel, plus after Sweetie got sick and was put down I scrubbed our playroom everywhere just in case it was some viral or bacterial thing, I knew I was going to get another and did not want it to be ill and when that one, Sable, was not defecating that was too strange.. But I do miss Sweetie ( the one I had 5 days, he showed such promise, I mean he knew to run to the litter box and pee in it, to me that was amazing considering he was only 8 weeks old, I know with even kittens it can take a while to train them)..I thought how smart he was and thought he was gonna rival Stinky in the intelligence department and he was just so gorgeous and tiny and he was super feisty the first two days he was here tearing all over the playroom., it was strange had he got so ill so quickly though and very heartbreaking.

I hope it was just bad luck that I got two ill bunnies from the breeder, I mean it is obvious she loves the bunnies there, the way they react to her shows that as well as the way she handles them, she even has one that is blind in one eye, I would think a heartless breeder would put it down, but she has kept her..maybe for some reason I was attracted to these ill bunnies , but the breeder did say bunnies are such pretty looking animals and sometimes they can look healthy, but other things are going on, she has said with the babies one day they look fine, the next they are ill or die. And the vet told me that breeder does have healthy bunnies.

You know you give great advice because yeah I bet being able to tame a scared bunny has to make one feel great that that bunny changed his ways and feels extremely comfortable. Now with the one at the vet they wanted me to take, see they only got him that day or a week earlier ( I was pretty upset that day so not everything they said about that adoptable rabbit is clear) so even they, I think, did not know his true temperament and I would feel terrible if I took him and he never was comfortable with me, that would be worse than having no bunny...but I may go there next week, or the week after, perhaps that bunny has relaxed more and will be more at ease with me. But a neighbor told me there is a landscaping farm not far from here ( they sell all kinds of gardening items, sod too) well he said they have bunnies and this is so cool, he went there and the guy ringing up purchases, he had a bunny that was sitting on his shoulder the whole time he as doing the transactions. I laughed and said I wanted one like that, those bunnies must be really easy going and very affectionate how cool is that to have a bunny be so relaxed he will sit on your shoulder as well as there are all these strange people ( customers and delivery guys) milling about.. But I will check at the vet too, though she really charged a lot for Sweetie and I was hoping she was going to cure him, it cost over $300.00 for one day ( 24 hours) of her treating him and the receptionist told me the vet took $200 off the bill so wow she was going to charge $500.00 that is a lot especially since the bunny had to be put down. Next time I am going to the vet who cared for Chubby, my late dog who was 18 yrs old and was pretty ill, they were not overly expensive and they were very honest with me, they said she was so ill and in such pain that it would be cruel to her and very expensive to me to keep giving her treatments and they even sent me a sympathy card the next week ( how amazing was that? I still have it with other letters, cards, etc I have saved over the years).

Now see I did call a rabbit rescue group, well I e-mailed them, this was before I went to the breeder; a woman, a vet who works for them, e-mailed me back, she was very sweet in her words over Stinky ( my 8 yr old bunny who died) and she gave her phone # for me to call, I asked what would be a good time to call and that I hoped they had youngish bunnies since I did not want to go through a loss again too soon and she never wrote back and that is an organization called The Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group, ( LIRRG), but see I did write that as I was responding back to her I was crying over Stinky and hoped it was not too soon to try to get a new bunny., maybe she felt it was too soon for me. To be ho0nest anytime any pets of mine died I did not replace them right away, after my cats and dogs it was more than 10 yrs that Stinky came running into our yard and hearts. And about the LIRRG I found out the vet I took the baby bunny Sweetie adopts out bunnies from them. Next week I will just call that vet to see about a bunny, or go to that landscaping farm to check out those friendly bunnies. but I am wondering if God, fate whatever one may choose to call it is telling me now is not the right time for a bunny or any pet, it's very strange how nothing is working out in the bunny department of my life.

Might be worth giving the LIRRG another call when you are feeling you are ready for another bun, perhaps you could go there - give them all a cuddle and see which bun you fall for.

You know they have a website? (I can't resist looking at rescue buns)

http://www.longislandrabbitrescue.org/

I see they have a bonded pair looking for a home (pairs are great fun) or a couple of boys singly that might suit you.

Yes Katieb I think I will try contacting the LIRRG, but I will call the vet too.I know with the LIRRG they like to come to your home first to ensure that you are a fit "parent", and at least I can see the bunny first in person to see if we bond and if we do then they can come here to check out my home to see if it is bunny safe ( it is I have all wires from tvs etc where no bunny can get anywhere near, haha they are held up by hooks on the walls and I have thick furniture in front of the wall sockets so no way they can get anywhere near wires) and all books are up high on shelves and nothing is on the floor that bunnies can get into) but you know Stinky, one time, after I left a glass bowl on the couch, he must had jumped up on the couch and grabbed it with his teeth and slam dunked it to the floor, I heard a huge crash and ran down to see him sitting on the couch and the bowl shattered into hundreds of pieces, it was funny and I am glad he stayed up on the couch so he did not get cut on the glass, I tell you the guy was something else! But I knew thereafter nothing could be on the couch that he could toss and break) and I also knew to leave my bedroom door shut as that he chewed on a pic a guy sent me ( haha now that was funny), as well as one time he got into my bedroom and he dragged my nightgown out into the hallway, haha what a nosy, bratty bunny! But first going to see an adoptable bunny at that vet office to ensure bonding seems better than me picking out a bunny in a pic then they come here, see my home is fine, they bring him here and uh oh what if he's not happy? It would be awful to have to give him back. And see the one at the vet he was kind of scratching me and he was not used to being held like Stinky ( I had no idea all rabbits did not like being held like babies like Stinky liked). I hope I can get another that likes being held a lot.

Oh thank you Cheryl'n'Bruce'Flo for posting that link. You know I actually did go to that site and haha like you I like looking at rescue bunny pics too, actually I like looking at all bunny pics. And I like watching YouTube bunny videos as well.

But on the LIRRG they do not seem to update their adoptable bunny pics, they have had all those pics for a long time and see at the vet's office they had a really adorable 3 month old brown/black pointy eared bunny for adoption , but I never saw him on their site ( they just happened to adopt him out by the time I was there with poor Sweetie), I must say he was a very sweet outgoing bunny and wow young too and then they wanted me to think of adopting the 5 year old brown dwarf bunny, but I don't see him on the site either., which is odd since he's up for adoption unless someone already adopted him. Now the bonded pair Gomez and Fawn in the picture do look cute..I might call about them, but I do want youngish bunnies, I hope they are young... I really do not want anymore sick bunnies and I do want them for a long time.

But you are too sweet to think of posting their site , thank you.

I responded to you Lizzie_Blackwell 3 in the correct order, you know I wrote to each person in the order they responded and I screwed up, it said I could not e-mail you as that I am a new member, I think I hit the wrong button on here, I are very stoopid with compooters, er computers, nope I was right the first time I have a compooter! And I swear I responded to you over and over and that same message kept coming up, then I thought I saw my response to you posted, but when I just looked nope it wasn't there.. yikes I have gremlins in my compooter!

Yes Stinky was amazing and thank you for your sympathy about him and Sweetie and Sable ( though I like to believe Sable is okay, maybe he just wanted to be back with all the other bunnies).

You are right a rescue group is best since they check the bunnies out thoroughly, but see I did contact them before I went and bought Sweetie and they did not write back, it was strange and then to think I took Sweetie to a vet's office who just happens to showcase and adopt out the LIRRG bunnies it is kind of funny, isn't it? But that dwarf bunny did not seem thrilled with me and he did scratch me, I figured he didn't like me very much.

Buttons sounds too precious with his kissing you so much and this is funny, he and Stinky share a characteristic, I swear Stinky used to, if my hand was flat on the floor or couch, push his nose under it to lift it to get me to scratch his nose and head, tooooo funny!! And haha about what Buttons is telling you when he pushes his head under your hand. And heyyy I used to say to Stinky, "I'm you Mama!" I used to tell him he was my furry baby!

Awww thank you for hoping I find another loving bunny! That is so kind of you! I hope a bunny I get will love me back, it would be awful if he didn't.

Stinky was meant to be with you-it was fate!3 months ago I went to visit my family on a different day & time to normal & it so happens a baby bun had been found in the cemetary behind where they lived that day & the council workers were going from house to house looking for the owner. We said we would take him home for the night as it was near to the workers finishing time & put notices up in pets at home, gave his description to all local vets & took him to our vets to check for a micro chip.3 months later he is still with us & will never be leaving-I believe that was fate too.He was meant to be with us,just like your Stinky was meant to be with you Very Happy

Awww Willowholly I love your story, how great something so alive and beautiful as a bunny was found where the departed rest; and I agree fate did play a huge part in you getting your little sweet bunny and me too getting Stinky. Your bunny must had known he was getting a real gift in being a part of your family. Hehe I think Dill, Barley and Casper are soo cute, Casper looks soooo soft! There is a cartoon called Casper the Friendly Ghost , I don't know if you ever heard of it before, but if you do know of it is that how your Casper got his name? And if so, is Casper the bunny you found in the cemetery?

Laughing Our vet nurse named him that when we took him in to check for micro chip.We said we wanted a cemetary based name & ghost, tombstone, stone, gargoyle were all mentioned, then nurse said"Casper the friendly ghost"& I liked it instantly.

Aren't we all biased though about our bunnies, other pets, family, cooking, creative projects, etc hehe .

And Casper is a great name, the other names do seem kind of ghoulish, though I know a few people who named their dogs "Ghost" and it is a cool name.

Your Casper in your pic looks so impish and mischievous , his adorable expression seems to say that about him. Cuuuuuuute!!!!
