Poor Hermione

Poor Hermione Took her and Easter and Boo to the vets today for their Myxi jabs. Firstly, Hermione struggled half way through the jab so the vet had to pull the needle out and reinsert it, but she reinserted it in such a way that the remainder of the vac came out the other side of her skin So, she had to have it again. Then, the vet offered to trim her nails as they were a little sharp. I always worry about cutting the quick and that is exactly what the vet did Poor Hermione went wild. I didn't think I was going to be able to contain her, the vet had to pin her down too. Her nail wouldn't stop bleeding, I could of punched the vet for hurting my bunny. I take upmost care when handling my buns so they trust me, and now Hermione is blanking me and runs away when I go in the playhouse.
Easter isn't to keen on me either and Vince has the hump too as he had to have the last of his shyphilis (sp) jabs today. Boo is the only one that hasn't got the hump and he had his VHD today.
I got loads of grovelling to do now, my poor Hermi, she is such a gentle soul, it was awfull to see her thrashing about like a trapped wild bun

How distressing for you ... and her. Honestly, I just wish vets would be honest when they aren't feeling confident about handling buns. I know that in future, if I don't know the vet, I will be asking them how confident they are before they get near mine!

There is a newly qualified vet at our practice who did the straight through the neck bit with Felix. I wouldn't let her touch my animals again - and I told the practice that too. It was put onto my notes!

It really was awful Nickie those two rex girls were handled from birth so are very comfortable around people. To see Hermione frightened like that was upsetting, her eyes were bulging, I'm suprised she didn't make a sound. I feel terrible for her.

Aww, poor girl! It's awful when a vet trip goes wrong, isn't it?

Don't beat yourself up though, it wasn't your fault and I'm sure she will forgive you.

Hermione will be ok - us buns are very forgiving. Especially when treats are involved

When Florence had her Myxi she was a bit nervous, so the vet got some anaestic spray, squirted that in the two areas, and she was absolutely fine. I had no idea that stuff even existed, but it really made me appreciate the vet. She is a bunny specialist so I guess she knows the tricks, when she has her booster in March I'll ask for the name of it.

Another vet I saw post spay asked me to hold her for the tummy inspection, and I appreciated that too, as she was still woozy and didn't know that vet at all. It's amazing the little things that can make you really like a vet, and also go the other way.

We tend to expect them to know what to do and how to handle our pets, but often they are not very sure and the buns know that! I am much more comfortable now with challenging them and when they realise that they are dealing with a mouthy bunny-savvy owner, they usually do it my way!
