Oscar is poorly
Hi everyone
Sorry I haven't been on here recently. I am afraid that now I am on here I am asking you all to please send lots of vibes for my little Oscar.
Some of you might remember that he was really poorly back in August.
We took him to the vet at lunchtime today and she referred him straight to the vet hospital.... He's got Violet with him but I rang a little while ago and the vet there told me that there's no change. He hasn't poo'd and he won't eat voluntarily. She said that he's not too depressed and is moving about and taking his meds and critical care well. He's had fluids and so isn't dehydrated. Please send him lots of get well vibes.

Re: Oscar is poorly
The vet thinks it's a combination of things, but apparently his teeth have worn unevenly. They are longer on one side. I feel terrible that I haven't picked up on this. I feel like such a bad mummy.

Re: Oscar is poorly
Your not a bad mummy - buns are sooo good at hiding their illnesses.
You might find that he doesnt want to eat until his teeth are sorted hun. Daisy is a dental bun and once those teeth start hurting him he just refuses to eat full stop!
Do they have any plans to burr them?

Re: Oscar is poorly
They said that they need to get him better first but that he should have a dental asap after that. Poor little mite, his tummy has blown right up again, he's like a little barrel. I am so worried about him. I can't believe that I missed the signs. Oscar won't really eat hay so he doesn't poo as well as all the others anyway.

Re: Oscar is poorly
I agree with Katie - Bruce is a dental bun and also refuses to eat when they have spurred. The vets say 'but they were only little spurs!' everytime he has a dental to which I always answer he stopped eating so it had to be done. I can get him through a weekend on metacam if he has stopped eating on the friday but I wouldn't go any longer. It doesn't make you a bad bun mum, you can't tell if they have dental issues until they go off their food.
Your vet is right though, he has to be well to get through the GA. He needs to be eating and hydrated (even if he is only managing soft food) to cope with it all.

Re: Oscar is poorly
Its not your fault! Its easy to blame yourself as Ive been feeling the same recently - but honestly buns hide illnesses so very well, the little monkeys.
Sending so many positive thoughts for him hun, and hugs for you - there is nothing quite like bunny worry, especially when they are in the vets. x x x x

Re: Oscar is poorly
Hey everyone
Your vibes have done the trick again so a big thank you from Oscar and me. The vet called me earlier to say that he can come home tonight. His tummy is feeling normal again and he's eating and pooing too. So relieved.
I hope all of the other poorly buns on here have the same successful recovery.

Re: Oscar is poorly
OH! Poor Oscar! Having teeth ache is miserable! Having a burr on a tooth would hurt not only that tooth, but the tooth(eeth) it strikes. My mouth hurts just thinking about the poor little dear.
You're not a bad bunny mommy! They can't tell us and I think their not wanting to worry us makes them hide it. (Yes, I know prey animals hide illnesses and such so as not to appear weak before predators. ) Our companion bunnies have their differences from their feral cousins in this respect.
