can i get rid of magnums cage??
ok so im planning to move my frontroom around and considering getting rid of magnums cage...he has a pen attached to it that and i plan on keeping up, with his cardboard castle etc. His hay rack is actually attached to his play pen, and he uses a water bowl which is also in his pen. At the moment his cage is bare, he has minimal bedding in it, he never uses it. He lays out on his blanket in the play pen, and when the door is open he's out and about in the front room. The only time he's locked in his pen is on the night time, as he started chewing skirting boards
The play pen would be 5'x3.5' at the min a big chuck of this space is taken up by the cage. I am gonna be keeping the cage tho as its the big farplast 120...i'm gonna use the bottom as a gaint digging tray!!
So do you guys think he'll be ok without a cage??

Re: can i get rid of magnums cage??
Daisy doesnt have a cage or pen of any kind - although the skirtings have paid the price!!!! (and the door frames, and several rugs, 2 sofa's..........)
all I would say though is if you are getting rid of his cage, make sure he has something he can get into/under when he feels vunerable. (daisy goes under his sofa - where he has a blankey and some hay and water) They need some space to call their own where they can escape to.
Good Luck!

Re: can i get rid of magnums cage??
thanks katie i cleared his cage away yesterday. And so far it doesnt seem to have bothered him. Its actually given him more free space in his playpen which he took advantage of and has had a run around( trashed the pen!)
Magnum also has a hiding place under the sofa, spends most of his time sleeping under it sprawled out in the day, Altho i cant fit a litter tray or water under there so they stay in his pen.
He has place to hide, theres the 2 sofas, behind the curtains and a cardboard box in his playpen. I'll keep an eye out for odd behaviour and put the cage back in if i see any.
How do u fit a tray, hay and water under ur sofa??? it must be huge!!

Yea I got rid of Buttons' cage a while ago and have in his pen thing at night, I've got a small cardboard box in there for him to hide in and destroy!! Seems to work well!! He also spends most of the day time hiding under the sofa!!
I seem to remember a topic a while ago about chair and sofa shopping and having to have ear clearance underneath!!
