Update on dodges plums
Dodge was taken to be fondled by mr vets today and he has confirmed that Dodge is indeed a boy. There was a little confusion but he definately has a winky. The vets asked if he had been neutered already but I've had him from 6 weeks so I really don't think so.
Both of his plums are internal and they will not neuter until he is bigger because its a big op for such a little bun (i'm not sure how big the op is myself). The little monster is still very small so hopefully he will have a huge growth spurt. He is a third of what his actual size should be.
Can anyone offer me any advice on what to do with my hormonal bun?

Re: Update on dodges plums
Although I cant have him neutered yet do you think its advisable to put him through the op when he is a little bigger? I'm not really sure how complicated the op is but I would like to get him a lady friend in the future
I will get him a toy to relieve himself on......(sorry that sounds really wrong )

Re: Update on dodges plums
If his plums dont descend then I would still get him neutered as undescended plums can become cancerous in later life.
It is a more invasive op' but a good Bunny Surgeon should be able to do it without a problem

Re: Update on dodges plums
I will take him to his regular vets then. I only took him to the vets around the corner from me so they could confirm that he was definately a boy bun. tbh they are not a great vets with exotics. He did say that it wasn't worth neutering them because they are small and don't react well to the anesthetic. I would never take my buns there for any treatment.
Should I give him another month or so before I go about removing his plums? just to see if he grows?

Re: Update on dodges plums
I find a better vet if they don't know much about bunnies. I'd ask for a second opinion, Carlton's had dropped and Simon said they were pathetically small but at 5 months, he was good to go.
It can't be nice for either of you to have a hormonal bunster!

Re: Update on dodges plums
Stop it! I've just choked on a piece of toast from sniggering. Sorry Carlton.
Pathetically small, violated :lol!:
Karina - how old is Dodge? I remember Barney being very hormonal before his plums decided to descend. He could spray Louise from a couple of feet away

Its a good job I'm not eating or I'd be choking now!!!
I was going to say the same as Jane about them maybe turning cancerous when he's older, same with dogs.

Hung like a horse was he?
Tell me Jane, I've always wondered what does a vet/Christabel do with all the plums that are removed? On a busy day there could be quite a few

Re: Update on dodges plums
Aww bless Dodge, I hope they do drop on their own. My vet said Bertie's were the biggest he'd ever seen, he wasn't wrong either For a man to have to make that decision for another male, especially whan he'd have been a real hit with the laydeez (presuming he's straight, poor warped thing, I'm never sure, living with us ) was very difficult indeed
Re: Update on dodges plums
He's 6 months old now so theres still some hope. I'll be taking him to his usual vets to have him neutered so when he's big enough and a healthy weight hopefully they can tease them out. I've never come across a bun with both plums being internal.
Poor little man....he has a tiny winky and no plums. No wonder he's a confused little boy.

I've wondered this aswell! Ryan and I think they had a bullseye target thing over a bin and once they've whipped them out, they try and hit the bullseye before they fall in the bin! the closer you are to the middle, the more points you get. I bet they have a scoreboard too.

Christabel
Karina, one of Brian's never descended but we put him in for it anyway. It's no more invasive than a spaying. It just means they have to go inot the abdominal cavity to retrieve it. It's certainly not a scary op but just a bit more major than a normal deplumming.
Vibes for Dodge's plums!

I have phoned the usual rabbit vets and they have said that they can neuter him :thumb: It just depends how high up they are....if that makes any sense
