wasn't room for a fullw arning so **warning graphic plums**

This is Dom. Is this normal?! They were very swollen and red last night. the doc says it is just the scrotal skin but it really looks like something coming OUT of the body seeing as there is such a distinct line between fur and bald. The swelling has gone down since yesterday and they are not nearly as bright red.

Dom:

Stu (for comparison. you can only just see the scars with him and the plums are furry - has he got a testicle remaining though? last pic):

well i have had charlie and Bri done before these two. Stu's look 'normal' to me but Dom's really don't...

i took him back to the vets friday night as they were bright red and he said it was normal, gave me some anti imflammatory cream... but that's it. I am inclined to agree with Charlotte's view - it looks like they've opened him up, pulled out the ball but forgotten to cut it off!

Shocked really?!

he isn't in any visible pain and is acting normally

i take it this is not normal?

the balls pre-op were always that sort of 'oval with an extra bit' shape... just not bright red!

don';t worry Jane, I believe you. Mr B didn't get back till 6 tonight but I shall take him in in the morning, see what the guy says. He was so adamant that Dom was fine. The only other vets around - one of them doesn't 'do' rabbits and another was the one who didn't even care about pain relief. I will stick it out with this chinese guy and get him to do a proper exam, take Stu along as comparison.

Thanks Jane.. Poor Dom Sad

Hmmm... it might be an idea to send pics and Dom's background to Dana Krempels (rabbit specialist), just to let her see them. If you tell her that you're in Brunei and explain the vet situation, she may be able to put your mind at rest, plus we'd be interested to hear her comments (cos we're nosey Embarassed Laughing ). Her email address is dana@miami.edu

Fudge is really pleased to hear that Dom is healing well although looking a little weird. he also sends bunny healing vibes to Stu!

He is a hppy bunny himself as finally got the all clear on his nasty ear infection...we are binkying around quite nicely!

I translated Fudge's message into Malay for my bunsters and Dom is mortified that his plums (or lack thereof) are plastered over the internet)... Hazel says "How YOU doin'?" Laughing Tart No

Update on Dom:

I emailed Dana who replied very quickly bless her. She reckons that Dom was at the receiving end of a scrotal neuter (what they do to dogs) as opposed to a pre-scrotal neuter which is more normal. It is basically where they lop the whole plum off rather than opening the scrotum and removing the testicle, is a lot more painful, causes massive swelling and is not recommended in rabbits.

It is bizarre that Stu has a normal op and Dom's was a scrotal. They were done one after the other by the same vet. I don't get it.

Hazel: Now I have looked at her today and she seems to have some dried crispy bits (presumably from a weeping wound) in her shaved zone (although not around the wound itself). Jack never let me touch her 'area' post-spay so I'm not as au fait with girls, but there is one small scab (about 2mm long) and the flesh underneath the skin seems slightly squidgy. I can feel what I presume to be the internal stitches but I can't work out if the rest is swelling or just healing. It is only very slightly raised, not unusually hot and she is not bothered about me touching it particularly.

Sorry I know I am paranoid now but I don't trust this guy enough to assume all is well.

Thanks Smile

Hmmmmm, how big is the swelling? It is probably just a slight reaction to a suture. But if it is well away from any sutures and is squidgy it is possible that the spay has herniated. Without actually being able to feel the swelling I can only guess at possible scenarios.
If it is a herniated spay she'll need urgent treatment but hopefully that is not what the swelling is.

Crikey, what a worry for you

well the external 'wound' (it's more like a seam with one small scab at the end) is about an inch from what I presume to be the internal stitches. the squidgy bit is in between...

she is fine in herself, not worrying over it and did not struggle when I had a feel... she was unimpressed at being turned over though and escaped from me to run around the house like a loon Laughing

I can't help feeling absolutely awful and useless for putting my poor bunnies through all this Sad

Poor you, I wish I could say something to help.

Can only send loads of vibes that all is well with Hazel.

As for the boys - is there any possibility at all they could have been opped on by different vets?
