Flea Treatment Empty Flea Treatment

Post by icedancer Tue Jan 24, 2012 1:30 pm

Florence doesn't have fleas or mites, but when she comes back from the rescue do you think it will be worth my while to treat her and bunny 2 anyway? I'm not saying the rescue was dirty or anything, I'm just trying to be prepared.

If so what would you recommend? I have seen some right horror stories this morning about Xenex Ultra Spot on, which I googled after seeing it on Vetuk, so I'm a bit nervous about any spot on treatment now. Is Xeno50 or Xeno450 ok, and are thry the same thing?

Ta!

We use the Xenex Ultra Spot on, usually rescues do treat them for fleas if the bunny has any before rehoming.

Have yours ever had skin burns from them? After googling it I'm a bit scared. I've found the advantage that I used to use on my piggies, but it says don't allow them to groom other pets after use. That's going to be fun on two loved up bunnies!

I think I'm just worried because she hasn't been away from me before Embarassed

I think some animals get skin burn when they have sensitive skin . Advantage is a good one to use as it doesn't seem to irrate the skin like most

Xenex Ultra Spot on seems to fine for most buns, but others have a terrible reaction. I won't use it, after it burnt Bertie's neck, I knew within 5 seconds that there was a problem, ant it took until the next day to clear, despite us washing his neck every hour.

I don't like medicating without a reason to, and would deal with it if it happens, rather than pre-emptively.

Costs more, but Invectamin jabs are safest & (i think) more effective.

I can see why a rescue and/or boarders would do this more often Smile

You can get ivermectin spot on from the vet as well. It is what I get for the piggies.
