Letter template and links so you can help suffering bunnies
Hi all,
I hope none of you find this inappropriate for the forum - I am not including any gruesome videos, pictures, or text! But this means a lot to me so I take a risk. Millions of poor bunnies cannot ask for help and who should stand up for them if not us, rabbit lovers? Rabbits suffer awfully farmed in cages in the UK and EU, in conditions worse than those of battery chickens.
Please take a few minutes to ask your MP to support the Early Day Motion (EDM) 1102 Farming of Domestic Rabbits http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/1102 which seeks to improve the welfare of farmed rabbits in the UK.
1. Go to the UK Parliament website to find out the name of your MP and their contact details.
On this page, you can search by entering your postcode http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/
2. The list of MPs who have signed the EDM can be found here http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/1102. If your MP has signed it already, you don't have to do anything. If not, write a letter or an email to your MP. Keep it short and add a small personal touch such as saying why you support the EDM.
This is what I sent, take time to read it and edit through so as to make it relevant to you. The "please let us know your views on the above matter" and "we look forward to hearing from you" at the end will hopefully encourage them reply to you.
I do hope that the bunnies can count on your support.
Please support the bunnies by signing the following petitions also.

Dear Your MP Name,
As constituents of yours, we would like to ask you to protect the welfare of rabbits that are farmed in the UK by signing the Early Day Motion 1102 Farming of Domestic Rabbits which seeks to improve the welfare of farmed rabbits in the UK (http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/1102).
Rabbit farming standards in the UK and Europe are in many cases worse than those for battery farmed chickens. Little is known to the wider public for various reasons, mainly funding to educate the public on where rabbit meat comes from.
Please take the time to have a quick read of the links provided and I hope that you will be happy to support the campaign to change the way in which these rabbits are kept.

We are happy owners of 6 rabbits and have learnt that these are gentle, inquisitive and intelligent creatures. We support the protection for farmed rabbits. Please sign the Early Day Motion 1102 Farming of Domestic Rabbits. Thank you.
Please let us know your views on the above matter. We look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
My Name and My Husband's Name

Re: Letter template and links so you can help suffering bunnies
Hi,
It's completely appropriate, thaks for posting it
I could well be mistaken here, but I believe that this EDM has already taken place, at the end of last year. Unless this is a new one?
We were involved in the EDM, and joined up with Bunny Hugga and Four Paws to make representation.
We also contributed to the debate with this article on raising welfare standards for farmed rabbits http://www.hoppingmad.org/E2/features2.htm
AFAIK, the motion didn't go anywhere, which is why I'm wondering if this is a new one? Many MPs were written to and most declined to be involved. As you'll see there's only 2 conservatives in that list
However, it is a debate that needs more emphasis and input, so I hope that people will sign the petitions, and keep the discussion alive.
Thanks again
EDIT: I think a trick is being missed here that we could utilise - now that cages are banned for chickens in the EU, why are they still allowed for rabbits?

Re: Letter template and links so you can help suffering bunnies
BUAV sent me a petition with my prizes and I am going to see if I can get some of my customers to sign it when they drop off or collect their bunnies, I'm sure they will. I also said if they had any flyers or posters I would display them in the boarding shed and indoor bunny suites for them.

Tucker Bunnies - I think the link for the BUAV petition is the one in my post :-)
Checked the link for the EDM and it works now. Not sure why it did not before.
It does not appear it was debated yet and still appears active
Thank you so much for your support. Bunnies mean a lot to me.
Hugs

Re: Letter template and links so you can help suffering bunnies
The second edm link doesn't work, possibly due to a full stop where it shouldn't be.
At the top of the EDM page it says it was tabled in 2010. EDMs only stay open for the period of the parliamentary session so I think this one is no longer active.

Re: Letter template and links so you can help suffering bunnies
I would think that tabled means "put forward" because the actual EDM is there to support the Four Paws campaign and the campaign is up and active and referring to the EDM Please email your MPs.

Did you hear back whether the campaign is still active?
Re: Letter template and links so you can help suffering bunnies
I got 'this person is on holiday' message. No return date. So I am still waiting.
