question about sizes
I have looked at the stickies about the recommended size for hutches and it says 5x2x2 is minimum for 2 rabbits if they have a large enclosure.
So what about a 2 tier hutch- 5ft X 18inches?
The reason I ask is there doesn't seem to be many 6ft hutches about and the 5 foot ones [2 tier] almost double in price from 18inch deep to 2ft deep, which seems ridiculous.

Re: question about sizes
If you are looking for a hutch the rabbit hutch company do a 6ft hutch for about £130 which is very competitive and is quite sturdy.

Re: question about sizes
Thanks for the link, however it was only really a hypothetical question, for the future if ever
My theory is a 5ft X 18inch hutch, but double tier, would be a suitable if not better alternative to a 6x2ft hutch...am I right in thinking that?

Re: question about sizes
No.
Because a double tiered hutch needs a ramp it offers far less interior space than the initial dimensions suggest. 2 5ft hutches side by side attached with runaround tube would be good, but more expensive again. The extra foot is a good half a hop and it all comes down to the 3 hops rule. with the ramp you loose a good 6inchx3ft space in both top and bottom of the hutch as there is literally a cut out on the top layer and on the bottom you loose a lot of vertical space under the ramp.

Re: question about sizes
They need the extra height too so that they can periscope too. A six foot is deffo better.

Re: question about sizes
Mine can't stand up and periscope in their double tier, and as said already the ramp takes up extra space both top and bottom. The bed does too so the top layer isn't really very useful for extra space.

Re: question about sizes
I can really see why people go for double storey hutches, they seem to offer all the space, but it is about making 3 consecutive hops, and being able to stretch in all directions. These hutches rarely offer that, but if attached to a secure large run, I see no issue with them.

Thats my thinking. My rabbits live in a big shed but its opened early every morning and they get to play all day in 'their garden' so really they are only closed in at night time, which would be the same for any bunnies I had.
