Hay issues.
I bought a bag of hay not long ago to use as bedding for Tigger and Jeeves. This is the hay that Tigger hated this time last year which led me on to a hunt for hay bales.
It turns out that they both absolutely loved it, they ate the whole of their bed and left the other hay I usually leave out for them to eat. And unlike the other hay, I was met by a gold poo mine so it must have been good!
Yesterday and today I didn't put the bedding hay down, which I now presume is gourmet to them, as I wanted them to eat up the usual hay I give them- after all I have half a bale left! It turns out that they have left 3/4's of it where they would normally have eaten all of it.
So... I bought a bale from the farm where they produce this amazing bagged stuff but it seems very different. It's nearly all gold There are a few green bits, but is gold hay ok?![\b]
[b] This is the 'amazing gourmet bedding' [\b]
[b] Left is the new bright gold hay from the same place and right is their old hay that they now refuse
I'm so confused and don't know what's best.
(apologies for the rubbish phone pics)

Re: Hay issues.
At this time of year all the hay that I get is that colour, mainly because it is from last year, come the summer and the hay will be more green as it will be fresh - my rabbits do go extra mad for the hay when its newly cut but they still eat this without a problem, essentially - if the buns will eat it then its fine!

Re: Hay issues.
It's funny how they just know.
One end feels quite cold and a bit damp so I've left the shed door open to air it. Not really sure what else to do.

Re: Hay issues.
I think it is sometimes the change that excites the buns. At different times of year the hay has a different texture and colour and I think this appeals to the buns otherwise it is like eating the same cheese sandwich for lunch every day for all of your life. Nothing wrong with it but it gets a bit boring.

Hay can vary at different times of year and if we have a good Summer, that bale look's like it has a lot of straw in it but I can only go by the photo
The hay on the right is 100% better than the hay (straw) on the left.

I did think at first it was straw, but from what I know straw to look like (thick) it seems like hay. It's like it's faded in the sun.
It's just a shame they now refuse the stuff on the right.
I will try and get a better photo
