hayy issues...
Well I have this problem, Luna doesn't appear to like hay that much...I've noticed it since I got her and I wandered if there was anyway I could encourage her to eat more?
I've tried different types of hay...but alas no progress, she just doesn't really like it that much...I've had it in a hay rack, toilet roll tubes, cardboard boxes, on the bridge in her cage and the newest addition a hay ball thing...
She eats a few bits, but never the whole lot. Where as Thistle will eat all of his in the space of a day..
I wandered if I should just try giving her more fresh grass instead?
Thanks for any suggestions you may have
Oh Also! I'm going to go foraging for fresh rabbit food on saturday...grass, see if I can find any types of plants they can eat *I'll take photos with me just so I don't pick anything wrong*...anyway I wanted to know if it was okay to pick plants tht were in an area where wild rabbits live? I'll wash it all, just it's the only place I can go where the plants won't have been near a road side and be all icky with pollution..(can't take it from our garden cause the dogs wee and poo out there!)

Re: hayy issues...
Hi, im no expert on this but I was told that grass is better for them than hay, its more abbrassive [?]
mine dont eat alot of hay, but they have 12 hour a day access to a very large bunny garden so are munching on grass constantly.
I would think as long as your buns are eating lots of grass they should be okay? When you think about wild rabbits, all they eat is grass right?

Re: hayy issues...
Yeah that's true! I can't put mine out in the garden much because we have two dogs...and they poo everywhere and its not a massive garden...plus one of the dogs would probably kill them if she saw them D=! So have to keep them out of her sight lol.
I'll have to get to picking them a lot more grass then
That does help though, thanks

Re: hayy issues...
Daisy was always very fussy with his hay - we tried loads and loads of different kinds and he was just not interested. In the end we found Oxbow Organic meadow hay and he loves it. The Hay experts do a great range.....might be worth sticking with it. But Grass is good too.....

Yea its online its from www.thehayexperts.co.uk
There are several different Oxbow ones and some of them he wont eat.....the one he likes is "Oxbow Organic Meadow Hay" Its not cheap but if its only being used for food a bag lasts us about 3 weeks.
Ahhhh fussy bunnies....what can you do with them????
Good Luck!

Re: hayy issues...
Have you tried putting it in her litter tray? They tend to like nibbling and defecating at the same time. Charming creatures.
Re: hayy issues...
You could mix into the hay some of her fave foods, (veggies, pellet nibbles, treats) and get her used to rummaging through the hay, might encourage her to eat it.
The other thing we did was play with it, rub a strand over her face almost to the point of slightly annoying her, she may well eat it then. If she does, give her a little reward. Buns are very quick to learn associated behaviours

Re: hayy issues...

Jay - I did that to her the other day haha, she wasn't very impressed and seemed to eat it out of anger lol! She does make me laugh

Re: hayy issues...
Hi,
I have two rabbits, Lola and Lotta and I put a wire rack of hay in and it's still there two days later ! I have tried all the Excel ones, plus normal Meadow Hay and they dont' seem bothered by it !
Think I might go back to readigrass as they really like that.
