Re: Very worried about Nibbler, don't know what's wrong
I had to go work yesterday so left my boyfriend with him and kept checking on him throughout the day and my boyfriend said he had been eating like normal. When I got home he ran up to greet me then would not stop pestering me for food! He had a good sprint and I saw a few binkies down the hall too I'm going to keep a close eye on him and if I see any sort of behaviour like the other day he's going straight to the vets, but he really hates being in his carrier and being in the car so it's a complete palava to get him there and I really don't want to give him any unnecessary stress if he's being his normal self and it was just an upset tummy. His poo's were looking a lot better too, still a bit small for my liking but a lot better.
I'm really worried I may be doing the wrong thing, but does this sound like the best thing for him as he's got to go the vets soon anyway? Or is it likely there's an underlying cause and it's better to get him checked out asap?

Re: Very worried about Nibbler, don't know what's wrong
For peace of mind I would always take them in for a check up, especially as it's often not easy to pin point what the problem is, especially with teeth issues. I know he won't like being bundled into his carrier (what bun does!) but you would be doing it for his own good.

I think I would be apt to take him sooner just to check his teeth as if he has a dental spur at all it will need to be sorted as this could be the problem especially if he has not been using his water bottle that could be a sign of a dental spur .

He's booked in at the vets as soon as I could get him there. Hoping the little boy is ok and doesn't get annoyed at me for taking him to the vets!

If he is in a run or a play pen or in the house try leaving his pet carrier on the floor with a few treats hidden in it the door open or off altogether so he can pop in it when he likes and this way he will eventually go in for the treats and associate nice things with the pet carrier as it is he hates the pet carrier because it means the Vet's

I'm definitely going to adopt this idea, when he wasn't feeling well and didn't move for hours I got the pet carrier out he managed to find enough energy to run away from me =( I think he definitely only has bad feelings towards his carrier!
Probably a stupid question too but is there a way to encourage foraging? I've tried before with his veggies to leave them round the flat to encourage it, but he just seems completely oblivious and walks right past them!

Sometimes you have to leave things for a while - and don't be tempted to then feed him in a bowl as well. The food is for foraging and he he can't be bothered to find it he doesn't get it. My pair use a treat ball for their pellets which is quite sucessful - although initially it took them a while to get the hang of it.

We sprinkle dried herbs in their hay and they have a good old forage for it for ages and seem to enjoy it

Yeah I definitely think I didn't give it enough time, I think I will have to control myself and ignore his sad face! He does have me wrapped around his little finger.

Don't they all!!!
Maysie, that is a wonderful idea about putting the dried herbs in the hay, but I got a question...How big are the pieces of dried herbs? When i think of dried herbs they are like what you shake onto pizza.

Re: Very worried about Nibbler, don't know what's wrong
Quick update:
I took Nibbler to the vets yesterday, it looks as though he had a bit of gas. I've been told to keep an eye out for any similar behaviour, but as he's started eating again it's most likely not a dental problem and she had a good look at his teeth and said they look fine. I have to say it's a weight off my mind, at the very least I know now what it is and if it happens again will be able to deal with it without panicking!

No they are just small pieces Holly we buy the bags of Burns dried herbs the meadow mix and dandelion and the buns really love it.
these are the bags of herbs we buy http://www.ukpetsupplies.com/product.php/6288/255/burns_herbs_meadow_mix_rabbit__guinea_pig___chinchilla_food_100g but we get them from shops not online
We grow fresh dandelions in pots in the garden and I sometimes put a couple in the hay for the buns as well to forage for.

I always find it odd when people say they "grow" dandelions - we have more dandelions than we know what to do with The Ts like it though.
Glad Nibbler has perked up
