Re: Poor Dr Finlay Has Had a CVA -U/D 21st August
Thanks everyone
Dr Finlay came to live with us last year. He was handed in to Bobtails Rescue by his previous owners. I dont know how anyone could put an almost 11 year old Bun into a Rescue. I hope that he has enjoyed his time here.

I'm sure he has adored his time with you and Esther, he has been a very lucky bunny and had a much longer life than most.
I hope he slips away comfortably surrounded by those who love him. x

Re: Poor Dr Finlay Has Had a CVA -U/D 21st August
Dr Finlay appears to have regained some use of his backend. I was advised to give him a shot of steroids to reduce the inflammation in his brain. The flicking eyes have stopped now too. He's still eating and doing a few poos.
Esther is OK with him but she cant understand why he is suddenly very incapacitated. So she will nudge him and try to dig the Vetbed from under him. I cant leave them together unsupervised now. But at least they are still getting a bit of time together today

The effects of the steroid injection are still helping and Dr Finlay is able to get himself about now. He still has lots of abnormal neurological symptoms but for tonight he is doing OK for an 11+ year old Bun who has had a stroke

Re: Poor Dr Finlay Has Had a CVA -U/D 21st August
Dr F is still with us
He is eating well and although his back end is very weak he can get himself about a little, he does fall over to the left a lot though and when at rest he still has a pronounced vertical nystagmus. But he is not distressed.
He is very, very dependent on Esther now.
I will be at the Vets with another Bun this morning and will give the Vet an update on Dr F.
I am not well at the moment so may not be online much. But I will let you know of any significant changes in Dr Finlay's condition.
Thank you all for your support

Re: Poor Dr Finlay Has Had a CVA -U/D 21st August
Dr F is a bit more wobbly again today. His nystagmus is more pronounced too. I guess the beneficial effects of the steroid are wearing off. He cant have another dose til Sunday. But if he deteriorates more I am going to ask if I can give him another dose sooner than that as the alternative would be PTS
Obviously all the steriod is doing is reducing the inflammation in his brain. If the inflammation returns as the steroid wears off his symptoms will get worse. As he is so happy within himself, is eating well and is not at all distressed I still dont feel PTS is the right thing to do yet. A more frequent dose of steroid will impact on his kidney function and he may go into acute renal failure. But if our Vet agrees I feel we have to risk it.
