Grrrrrrrrr Rabbit Claws
Ok so the bunnies need their claws doing, I managed to get two of Dougals done at the weekend but that was it, so I decided to try again tonight.
I went for Dougal first and he ran off and hid in the house, so I went to do Florence. She followed Dougal . When Florence came back out I locked Dougal in the house to do her.
She acted like I was trying to cut her paws off. Wriggling, biting, climbing up and sitting on my back, biting, running off. I tried for about ten minutes then Dougal broke out so I got out of the pen and gave up. I achieved nothing and Florence still needs all hers doing, and Dougal needs the back ones done.
I feel mean and deflated. When I took Florence to the pet shop the last time she was as good as gold, but when it comes to mummy doing it she plays up. I probably could have got Dougals done, but I felt such a failure I didn't try. I might have another go at Dougal in a minute. Where Florence has black claws I can't do them if she's wriggling as I'm nervous enough as it is.

Re: Grrrrrrrrr Rabbit Claws
I think if you are nervous then they pick up on that and play up. I HATE clipping nails but had to do it before they went into holiday boarding. I did 6 buns one after the other I only clipped the very end off though so they probably need doing again now, but i'm terrified of cutting the quick of the nail. I think it's just one of those awful jobs you have to do now and then.
Have you tried cradling them with their back against your tummy? That way they are almost in a trance position without actually being on their back. I'm quite lucky that mine just sit on my lap and let me do it.

Re: Grrrrrrrrr Rabbit Claws
They are going back to the rescue on Sunday to have them done Good old Facebook - I'm friends with the lady from the rescue, not thinking I put my status that Florence was acting like I was trying to cut her paws off and she offered to do them
I've told them if they don't behave I'm leaving them there!!
I've bought them a bale of readi-grass to say thank you, on their website you can donate various bits, and a £5 hay bale didn't sound enough.
I'm not going to be able to do that when I move, well I could I suppose but it would be about a 45 minute journey each way to do their claws But I'll take them over there again before I do move if they don't mind. I have to admit it hadn't crossed my mind to take them there, I was thinking of cheeking the home check lady who runs a bunny boarding place between here and my work.
Actually thinking about it, if I get them done again at the rescue before I move, they might be ok until they go on their Tuckerbunnies holiday the end of August, so I could cheek it and pay Maysie to do it
It's quite sad that they have me wrapped around their little paws

Re: Grrrrrrrrr Rabbit Claws
My pair try all sorts of different positions - I think it is important to make the realise it doesn't matter what position they go in they are having their nails clipped. To do his front left paw Bruce normally ends up perched right in the corner of the dining table almost hanging his front end over the edge. It is the only way!

We have a NIGHTMARE doing Daisy. He behaves like we are trying to saw his legs off too, I always come away upset and he goes all dramatic because we have dared to manhandle him.
I swear its more stressful for me than it is for him though and its deffo a two man job!

We did the bunny burrito and everything. Two of us---one bunny. We got three claws done, but I nipped too close on the last nail of the 3rd paw. It pains me to see him having difficulty with that unclipped paw. We'll try again this weekend---and try not to let him smell our FEAR!

Re: Grrrrrrrrr Rabbit Claws
I cheated and let Matt the v.e.t do Deeva's little nails yesterday at her baby bunny health check as they were a little sharp when she was using me as a climbing frame. She was as good as gold!
Fudge was fine with me doing his nails-wrap in a blankie sit on the sofa with his back against my stomach then a small square cushion gentley rested on him which worked as a surface to hold his paws on and also help keep him in place-well being a single parent I had adapt!

I have to get my sister to hold Nibbler when we do his - she's the only one who can hold him steady. I think both me and my partner are worried about hurting him so he smells our fear and fights us. It's ridiculous, he acts like we're torturing him

Re: Grrrrrrrrr Rabbit Claws
We haven;t had much trouble with Mr Snuffles but Paul holds him and I clip. I would imagine it is much harder if you are on your own. However, guinea pig claws, that really is a fight to the death.
