Question about dig boxes.
Thumper has suddenly decided he likes to dig. I've found several
sites that give solid ideas on making a dig box, but my guy is SO
big and heavy! Over 2 ft long when he stretches. He crushes
shredded paper and I'd be afraid he would bit off a piece
of one of those Styrofoam peanuts. Letting him dig outside is
out of the question since our neighbor told us that he found
several largish poisonous snakes cruising about and bunny
burrows area popular target.
We have the Maze Haven from Binky Bunny. It's currently a 2
story maze because it is is huge! Would taking it down to one
larger level and stuffing it loosely with shredded paper provide
enough 'digging' experience? We've never had a bunny that
loved to dig.

Re: Question about dig boxes.
That's worth a try! I was about to suggest filling a tray or box full of top soil but I cannot imagine what state that would leave your house in!!

I use a large plastic crate with a bag of paper based cat litter in it.

Re: Question about dig boxes.
I tried making a dig box. They peed and pooped in it, creating a lovely soggy sludge in the bottom of the box.

Fudge used to love digging at old towels and blankies and especially more so if in a canvas laundry bag!

Re: Question about dig boxes.
We use to fill a hooded litter tray like below full of straw and I would pop some treats amid the straw and the bunnies loved it, if you are having it outside fill it with peat or soil.
Be prepared for straw all over the floor
We take the plastic door off so the buns can jump in and out
