how could i cut holes in toy boxes
I have loads of toy boxes dont use, was going to cut arches in the side and flip them upside down so they are like little hides fill with hay etc. but I am worried about leaving any jaggy edges, how could I cut the plastic without leaving edges behind that might hurt the buns, at the mo the babys have a smaller one on its side leaning agains the end so they still have some shelter and feel more secure, charlie has the bigger one just filled it with loads of hay he can curl up in it but he wont be totally covered, should be warm enough for now tho till figure out how to cut them. any suggestions.

Plastic, if was wood a simple sanding and rough edges would be easy removed. I am thinking about scrubbing the cats old litter box and using that it has a door on it and its HUGE.

You *might* be able to sand rough edges off the plastic too.
Or find some way to melt them a bit to smooth them off... do you know anyone who has an old soldering iron...?

I have cut a hole in a large plastic box to make a digging box. I used a very sharp craft knife and repeated scoring rather than forcing it through. Then I used electrical tape all around the opening so there is no sharp edges. The buns have not been very interested in chewing it but love digging in the box.

If you are using it outdoors, bare in mind that in the cold weather they may condensate on the insides. This happeed with my piggies when I did the same in their hutch to give them a more snug bedding area.
You can cut through the plastic with a craft knife as Cheryl said, you can make it easier by heating the knife up over the gas stove, it stinks but goes through with less effort, and then you could sand it down and put duct tape or similar on the edges.

How do you prevent the condensation, at mo its just sitting in on his top level at the back corner full of hay, he can dig in it and curl up inside the hay still but its not covered.

I am paranoid they get cold, but they will have there winter coats, still its brrrr and going to get colder soon, so trying to make sure they are warm and dry no matter the weather. Hubby is annoyed the rain is getting in under charlies door, will have to put a plastic lip at the bottom and sides so it over laps and the rain cant get inside.

Hudad says you can get edging strip for motorcycle windscreens and that should fit perfectly if the plastic is about 3mm thick or less. You may need to glue it on though.

When i cut out a hole in Button's litter trays so he could get in and out, i used a craft knife and then fine sandpaper after...now smooth as a baby's bottom!!
