Joey not well - UD Weds
I've had a right day with Joey again today. He was fine this morning, buzzing for his breakfast, behaving normally. Come 11am he was sat in his cage base, not moving much. At about 1pm I noticed his fur was puffed up on his head and he wasn't taking any food (nuggies and plantain). It was different to a few weeks ago, when it was obviously tummy related. He just wasnt moving and looked like he wasn't really there.
Spoke to the vet and she said give him Metacam and Zantac, so he had that and booked a provisional appointment for 3.40. He didn't really perk up so we were back to the vets
He got checked over and there was nothing obviously wrong; teeth checked, bum thermometer , and tummy, although this was a little doughy and poos weren't moving through that quick. He had all the usual meds, plus water injected under his skin for hydration and Critical Care. Once he was home he wasn't that quick out the carrier and had to be shunted out which isn't like him as he usually hops out quick and runs off to hide. He just went back into his cage base and looked really glazed which was freaking me out. Even after the last trip when he had a touch of stasis and all the injections he didn't act like that.
I had to go out for a while and I'e not long got back, and while he's still in the cage he has had a bit of parsley tree and possibly a few nuggies while I was out.
Any ideas as to why he seemed so spaced out? I think that's the thing that got me the most, because he was tranced and not really responsive.
Thanks guys.

Thanks for the vibes hoppers x
Do you think thats what it is Maysie? He's still sat in the same place not really moving but he is eating if you feed him by hand.
I need to get him moving but not sure what to do for him..

He could do with having a run round as it get's things moving.
Have you seen him drinking at all? I'd be apt to give him a couple of syringes of water if not. If he has not had a lot to drink today he could be a bit dehydrated and so lethargic .

Re: Joey not well - UD Weds
He's not drank from at least 1pm onwards, although the vets administered some water into the back of his neck. I've managed to get one syringe of water in him and will try and get another in. He did start cleaning himself after he drank.
He's still not moving a massive amount, although he has jumped out in and out the cage a couple of times.
Any ideas why he seems so spaced out?

Is it still unseasonably hot there today by chance? Heat makes for a sluggish bun.

No it's been a lot cooler today, I could've understood it more if it was hot. Luckily he is mainly in the living room which is the coolest place in the house, especially with the blinds shut to keep sun out.

He needs to drink more water I think, this could be why he seems spaced out Fran.

Re: Joey not well - UD Weds
Sorry it's taken a while to update!
I'm not really sure how things are going to be honest...there are some things improved, some things have not. He's eaten a few nuggies, aome parsley, parsley and cranberry tree and orchard grass and plantain.
The drinking issue hasn't improved, and while I got one and a half syringes of water in last night, he's not really going for it today which is worrying me. I'm petrified of stressing him more by forcing it down, but realise he needs liquid.
He's done a few very small poos, which I guess is good. He has moved around a little and not still sat in cage, and has even lay down under the table. He's currently sat in his hut being sapced out again
The vet is supposed to be ringing back today so hopefully will get some advice. Mumma is stressed

Fran try adding some unsweetened blackcurrant to his water as it may entice him to drink more.

Re: Joey not well - UD Weds
Spoke to the vet and she confirmed it was probably the Vetergesic which caused Joey's spaced out behaviour last night. She also said they gave him 24hrs worth of water sub-cutaneously yesterday, hence why he's not been too fussed about drinking. Also suggested 2 doses of Metacam as he obviously in some discomfort still.
This morning there were encouraging signs, but this afternoon he has been stuck in his hut and now refusing even the parsley tree and orchard grass. Feels like we're back to square one
What am I supposed to do aside from syringing? Considering we've got a ******* four day Bank Holiday, is it best to just hospitalise him? It's highly likely he'll be back at the vets in the morning.

Re: Joey not well - UD Weds
What did they check him for when he was poorly not so long ago?
I'm wondering if it is worth having an x-ray done, just for peace of mind that all is ok inside if nothing else.
It always happens on the weekend
I really hope he perks up soon hun, lots of vibes for special little Joey and hugs for worried mum
