Back from the vets!
Hi guys, so Willow and I got back from the vets a little while ago, and she is now sulking with me. She snatched the Fenugreek Crunchie out of my hand, ran away with it and sat eating it with her back to me She won't come near the bed and does NOT want strokes! I'm such a mean hoomin
So anyway, onto the rest.
The vet listened to both her heart and lungs and weighed her. She has actually gained weight and is at 3.5kg now. He said she is by no means overweight and a very bright eyed, healthy little girl which was encouraging. However, when he listened to her lungs he did say her breathing was a little fast. We're not sure whether this was down to the stress of being in an unfamiliar environment or whether it is the Pasturella taking hold slowly. She has now been officially diagnosed with Pasturella
Either way, we didn't want to risk it and so we did treat her for it. On the advice of Sparky I asked specifically not to have Baytril, and I can't for the life of me remember the name of the drug he used but it was an unlicensed one and he was more than happy to give it. It did cost more, but that was the least of my worries. I will try and find the name of the drug he gave her when I get the bill tomorrow. It's a slow release anti-biotic which works over the course of 2 weeks and was given in injection form if that helps?
I've been given the warning signs I need to watch out for and also what I should be looking for improvement in over the next two weeks.
So I am now actually very glad I took her as we have caught it early and the vet said when allowed to progress the prognosis can be very poor, but Willow should be fine as she is still eating, drinking and healthy at the moment, so her immune system is still strong and the anti-biotic should do enough to eliminate it.
Thanks to everyone for all of your advice and support. Will keep you all updated.

Re: Back from the vets!
I'm glad you have answers Hun, even if it's not a clean bill of health. At least you can look out for the signs now and it's been caught nice and early.
I'm quite used to the 'don't even look at me sulk' hope its over soon!

Re: Back from the vets!
That is good news. At least you know what is going on. And it sounds as if you have had a good experience with the vet.

Re: Back from the vets!
That does all sound very positive (well, not from Willow's point of view, obviously ) - at least he didn't hear any congestion which is really good news.
I think all the time she is not showing nasal symptoms you don't have a lot to worry about really, and her having a dose of slow release antibiotic is not a bad thing at all. I have no doubt that you going in there having researched and knowing what you are talking about gave the vet a very good impression, and helped in the way he responded to you.
Were you also warned that antibiotics can give buns a bit of a poorly tummy (although this is much less likely to happen with the injected ones than the oral ones) and to keep an eye on her poops?
Well done Willow, now stop sulking and there might be another fenugreek crunchie in it for you

Re: Back from the vets!
Thanks guys. Glad I have some answers and info on what I need to be watching out for
My vet is brilliant. He was really shocked at my enthusiasm to know more about my bunny, or the fact I even knew what Pasturella was though It's a sad reflection on the widespread bunny owners though I think

Re: Back from the vets!
'I will take THAT!'
I'm glad you have answers, even if they aren't great but at least you have treatment for it! Your vet sounds really good to happily prescribe another med instead of Baytril.

Re: Back from the vets!
Glad that you have an answer and it sounds like you've got a good vet. I hope the sulking has died down now! I got a sulky bun yesterday after taking him to the vets too but he couldn't resist the cuddles a few hours later

Re: Back from the vets!
Thanks guys
Well, Willow sulked for at least a day after I'd taken her but lots of crunchies and a bit of time on the lawn won her over
Her breathing seems much better now too. Just ordered her a slicker brush 'cause she is now moulting like crazy
Thanks for the kind words everyone, think my girlie is back on her way to being ultra healthy bun again!

Re: Back from the vets!
Well I've just put in a big order at Bunny Bazaar packed with treats for the girlie (including Fenugreek Crunchies, of course!). Although I have now been forgiven, Willow obviously insisted that this was done after what I, the terrible hoomin, put her through!

When we did something Mr Snuffles didn't approve of, he would sit with his face to the wall, it was really funny.
