Hi all,

I wondered those of you who know Mr. C know if he would be willing to give our vet some help with Joey? She's said she's running out of ideas what to try - Joey has been having nasal issues for a few months and we've tried various antibiotics and he's also had a nasal swab under GA to find the exact bacteria, all with no avail. She's suggested to take him to a specialist in either North Yorkshire or Bristol (very far from here!) and leave him there overnight Sad

As this problem has been going on for months now, I'd dearly love to get him better and would like to know if Mr. Chitty could help.

Thanks x

So north yorkshire would be Frances Harcourt Brown in harrogate and Bristol is Richard Saunders and John Chitty is in Andover. I would double check on a route planner but I would guess that FHB is closest to you. Richard Saunders will give remote advice if you are a RWAF member, you just need to download the form and get your vet to complete it. As far as I understand it the other 2 vets will give advice when it is sought from another vet.

I'm pretty sure he would help - he takes referrals and I know he is happy to consult remotely with vets.

My vet was only telling me the other day how she rang him on Easter Sunday for some piggy advice.

He is now based a Anton Vets in Andover where they have a specialist bun unit.

I would def ask your vet to give him a call deffo.

Here is the link which clearly states about giving advice to other vets.

I don't think either Daisy or Charlie would be here without him.

Did they do a nasal swab for fungus/mold? Sometimes hay can be moldy or have a fungus that is not detectable by human sight or smell. Also, things such as black mold can just grow in your home and cause serious problems.

Yes, I thought it's be Frances Harcourt Brown (which the vet confirmed today).

Thanks so much for the link and info Katie, Joey's vet has emailed Mr.C and we will await his response.

Katie, Elaine and Maysie thank you so much for the offers Hugs Hugs
Will wait and see what happens.

Thought I'd finally update you with the latest on Micro Joe.

Our vet spoke to John C and he couldn't really help without seeing him, and with it being so far wasn't really an option. He did mention it was worth eliminating enviromental factors such as wash detergents, bedding etc.

Joe's vet managed to find a bun specialist in Cheshire, Molly Varga. His appointment was this morning, so we've had a 4 hour outing in horrendous rain! She did the usual checks and discussed what the options were and put these eye drops in to see how they affected his nose, then let him hop on te floor. He was bunged up in a few secs Sad She also flushed his ducts out.

So we've been given antibiotic eye drops (reaches the nasal cavities better), and have to start washing his sheets without detergents, getting new bedding (bye bye Megazorb!), only using hay for food and not in his cage base plus considering a nebuliser, to be used with antibiotics or decongestants.

She said it was probably more a case of managing the issue rather and getting rid of it 100%. So I guess we'll see how it goes in the next few weeks.

So they are not sure whether it is an infection or an allergy?

Has he had a lengthy break from antibiotics at any point or just gone from one to the other?

As you know, we have been through this at some length and found just one drug which knocks back the strain of pasteurella which several of us carry. I wonder if it is the same with Joe, that you need to find the effective abx. (We've been through the 'inconclusive' swab test too, and a slightly inconclusive PM on Molly Sad )

A nebuliser works wonders as it helps the meds get directly into the nasal cavities - we wouldn't be without ours. It's so important to keep the snot runny, and two nebuliser sessions a day can make all the difference between an active, norty bunny and a sad hunched-up one. We have a spare if you want to borrow one, or we'll find the link for the one Maysie recommended - it was under £50 on Amazon.

If there's anything we can help with, or if you think it might help for your vet to talk to our vet, just let us know. Our vet has done an awful lot to help find an effective management strategy for my snuffles.

Loads and loads of vibes for the gorgeous and special Micro Joe Hugs Hugs Hugs Hugs and hugs for his worried humum Hugs Hugs
