Tuckerbunnies wrote:Yes we have bandaged up sore hocks and this is what we used. Some bandage all the hock but we cut out a hole in the self adhesive thick padding
and make sure the holes go over the sore part of the hocks.
Thick Adhesive padding from Boots, went over the hocks with a hole cut out.
Then medical tape to keep the pads on. ( just to hold it in place-not to tight else it can stop the circulation)
Self adhesive horse bandage to wrap round the feet. ( Co-Flex and you can buy it in all different colours and designs)
This is Angel our blind Bridge bunny with the adhesive padding on and the holes cut in over the hocks.
Sadly his sore hocks were due to Osteomyelitis in his bones, his leg bones were just crumbling he had
no bone mass and we had to have him pts
There is also this Cheryl if it helps http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Skin_diseases/Mechanical/Pod/Podo.htm

This is what the vet did for Joey, they were very impressive. Shame he foot flicked them off after an hour

Here is Flo in her socks - the eagle eyed amongst you will notice the the catty pilar has had it again.

The handy thing about the socks is that you can turn them down over the micropore to stop her chewing it off.
However these are last night's socks.
peed on and chewed.

I think you look lovely Flo but judging by last night's damage to those socks, you don't agree!

Re: ... experience in wrapping sore hocks? u/d pics
Well we have been to see the vet today and Flo has new bandages. The vet has fashioned a padding by wrapping some normal crepe bandage around her fingers a couple of times then wrapping the bandage around the resulting circle as if making a pompom thus making a sort of doughnut to go over the sore bit and and it has been wrapped in vet wrap and then she has got her socks on over the top. Fingers crossed it will work.

No chewing or widdling on the new bandages, Flo
Are you seeing an improvement?

It think the less worn foot was a better colour today but the wearing on the worn foot has continued. Lets hope her new dressings will work better. There is no way I can do them on my own so we are back on wednesday for a dressing change.

I don't believe in trancing but even if I did Flo does not believe in it. I have also changed her onto 10cm vetwrap this evening which will hopefully cover the area required in 1 layer this giving her better movement, requires less wrapping therefore less struggle. She is currently holding one leg up of the floor so she obviously in some discomfort there. I will need to buy some padding tomorrow also.
I don't like the idea of trancing but I had to try as she would not sit still for a bum clean or claw clip. Turned out Tigger didn't believe in trancing either
Flo looks SO sweet in her socks! I had to cover my mouth to stop me from laughing fairly loud, it's certainly not a sight you see everyday! Thanks for cheering me up!

Re: ... experience in wrapping sore hocks? u/d pics
Flo not only kept her socks on and dry last night but hey were not chewed and I didn't even fix them on with micropore! The socks (pinks ones from Asda) seemed to be sticking to the vetwrap so I thought I would chance it. The outcome this morning is that all dressings and socks are still in place.

We have had to have an unscheduled vets trips as one of the doughnuts popped out of the back of the vetwrap. They were all really taken with Flo's socks.
