Re: Elijah has a blockage ... surgery ... in recovery
How brilliant he can come home tomorrow. I know what you mean about the worry - I find myself constantly watching to see if Annie is eating, wondering why she is lying down etc.
I guess it will get easier with time.......
Sending him nose rubs and hugs for you xxxxx

He's coming home!!
Is much better, eating and pooping.
I'm collecting him after work.
Whoo hoo, I thought I'd never see his cheeky little face again ... I can't wait!!
Thank you everybody for the vibes and messages of support.. it would have been a lonely place as well as a scary one without yous all

Re: Elijah has a blockage ... surgery ... in recovery
That's fabulous news - it's such a huge operation to go through. I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery and gives you a long break before any more stasis episodes
Oh, and when he is feeling better, a few more pics of the gorgeous fella would be lovely

Re: Elijah has a blockage ... surgery ... in recovery
He's home!!
He's settling in well and looked very much back to his normal lively self - I'm glad I left him for another day of TLC.
Erin is pleased to see him and has washed his eyes ...then lowered her head and got ignored (they live side-by-side as they had some spats that I felt might escalate, but they do groom each other through the 1" play pen panels). There's always been an intention to rebond but one or other is always at the vets or in recovery.
I visited them 5 minutes after settling him down and he ran over begging, so he's obviously feeling much better
Oh and, the vet bill was about 4 or 5 times what my car's worth! (The car is 13 years old, so don't panic too much ). A lot of the stuff on the itemised bill is to do with the intensive care and the specialised after care - a lot of the stuff that makes the difference between survival and not. Thank goodness for Pet Plan ... the receptionist joked with me that Pet Plan will probably bar me from getting any more rabbits I'm so, so glad I got insurance - I pay about £1K a year in premiums but I've probably claimed back double that this year and last
I shall try and get some photos some time soon. I also know that there's a video of the surgery and some still photographs that Nigel H-B offered for me to see - I might see if I can get a photo of that, for those that can stomach it

Re: Elijah has a blockage ... surgery ... in recovery
How fab that he has settled at home. Its amazing when you think its only a few days since such major surgery. Absolutely brilliant!
I am with you with petplan! Although I dont think they would go near me again with a bargepole!
They are worth every penny though.

I'm guessing it's a lot easier to recovery from than if they had to cut the intestines to free the blockage, though apparently there was a lot of rummaging about which would be more traumatic to recover from. I don't think he knows how lucky he is that one of the top (if not THE top) rabbit vet in the country came in on a non-working day to rummage around in his guts! I'm so, so grateful for the dedication they give I'm convinced he wouldn't have survived this without them.

You are very lucky to have them - I feel the same about Mr C. It makes a difference when you are worried out of your mind to know that they are in amazing hands.
Elijah is indeed a very lucky boy x x x x x

It really does. It brings it home when you see people asking questions because they have to guide their vets with information and aren't able to easily access a rabbit vet. When you know you can hand them over to somebody who really knows what they are doing it makes so much difference.

Thanks for asking. He's good He's eaten his Baytril and Fenugreek Crunchie (thank good, I wouldn't be able to wrestle with him to syringe it in!) and he ate his spring greens laced with Domperidone and Zantac - all good He's behaving normally if maybe just a tad less exuberant than normal. There's also quite a good amount of poop in his tray. He has to go back next week for his stitches out, which I'm sure he will enjoy immensely.

Re: Elijah has a blockage ... surgery ... in recovery
Thanks again for all the messages and support.
This morning when I took the buns their breakfast (about an hour later than normal) Elijah was doing very fast laps round his pen, he'd normally use his shelf during the laps but it's blocked off, but he raced through the litter tray on one lap and under the shelf on the next, just kept on running - about 5 laps He was tearing into his spring greens like he hadn't been fed for days.
I've got my Elijah back
