Elijah ... Erin BOTH home...
Erin was hunched and refusing food on Monday at 7.00 am, I'd spent some time with her at 4.00 am, so know she hadn't been like that long. She's been an inpatient at Harcourt-Brown's since 10.00 am Monday.... She's only really started eating this afternoon and I have a provisional appointment to collect her tomorrow, dependant on how she does tonight.
Just feeding the buns their tea and Erin's companion, Elijah didn't rush to me, I could feel straight away he was tense - he's refusing food and looking very sorry for himself. He's a regular with these episodes, so is Erin but not as frequent as Elijah. I can't get Elijah to H-B's as they don't do out of hours on a Wednesday night so if he doesn't improve in the next hour or so ... or worsens a lot in the next hour or so, I shall be whisking him off to local vets, where he was an inpatient for a few days just 8 weeks ago.
My buns have been plagued by bellyache/stasis episodes over the last couple of years but this year has been soo much better, I really thought I'd cracked it.
Elijah sometimes looks a bit out of sorts (but not to the extent he looks now) this time of night and then brightens up after he's done a big pile of poops around 9.00 pm - so I'm giving him a while before going to the vets as I'm cautiously optimistic that he's going to have some bowel movements and then feel better.
(Ain't it crazy how a rabbit's bowel movement, or lack of, can cause their owners so much stress).
Pooping vibes would be very much appreciated.
Edit to add: I've just spent some time with him and the penny has dropped that the horrendous moult he's got going on at the moment is probably the culprit - I did wonder if that could have been the cause of Erin's problem too.

Oh dear, poor Erin and Elijah. I think this funny summer is causing my buns to have a bad moult too. Is their poo in strings/a couple joined together?
I hope Elijah does a heap of poos for you very soon. Sending poo vibes to you and keep us updated I don't know a lot about gut stasis as luckily I've never had to deal with it, but I would imagine it to be very stressful, so sending to you too

Re: Elijah ... Erin BOTH home...
Thank you both. He's not looking miserable anymore and has eaten quite a bit of grass and dandelions enthusiastically. He hasn't pooped yet but I'm a lot less worried about him than I was when I last posted.
Thanks for the support.
Re Poops. Elijah's from earlier on look normal. Erin's on Monday were strung together but then they very often are. FHB reckons that it's because she re-eats her hard poops so the hair goes through twice, thus causing the problem.

Re: Elijah ... Erin BOTH home...
I wouldn't be surprised if its been the moult, my two have had a horrific moult this year compared to last year.
Tigger often has stringy poo too, she's a very very clean bunny when it comes to both her and Jeeves.
Hopefully with him eating he will be pooing in no time.
Poo vibes for Elijah and get better and home soon vines for Erin. Hugs for you xx

Re: Elijah ... Erin BOTH home...
I'm greatly relieved to announce that Elijah has pooped.
He's back to dashing across when I enter the room and tooth purring.
Thank you for the vibes and hugs. My main panic is when I can't get them to H-B's because I hate being parted from them and although my last two experiences of admissions at local vets have been okay, I'd just rather they were staying at the rabbit vets, if they have to be anywhere other than with me.

Re: Elijah ... Erin BOTH home...
Glad he's doing better. Sending vibes to both of them especially Erin. My two are going through an awful moult too and I've had the stringy poos.
Just a thought but what's their daily diet? Some veg can cause gas and tummy problems, I'm sure you know this already but was just checking.

Re: Elijah ... Erin BOTH home...
Update.
Unfortunately as I was preparing to leave home to collect Erin, Elijah was doing the "food refusal and bellyache thing". He had eaten his breakfast though looking back probably not as enthusiastically as usual. I took him with me to the appointment and he had a blood glucose reading of 15.1 (ie, something's not right and he needs monitoring) so he stayed at the vet's and Erin came home.
FHB showed me Erin's x-rays and said she could see something on her x-ray this time and previous ones - calcium deposits, towards the rear of her intestines, around the rectum area. She believes that they are surgical adhesions Thus creating a restriction for passing the faeces out of her body. She doesn't intend to do anything about it at the moment. I've to keep a close eye on her and if these episodes become a significant problem then surgery may be considered. I know from reading about it though that surgery on adhesions is a minefield and can make the situation worse. Although I wasn't told in so many words I guess this means my beautiful Erin is more at risk of a full blockage than the average rabbit.
These surgical adhesions are likely the aftermath of her spay. I don't know enough to know if it's just bad luck and she would have been vulnerable to them or if the vet that spayed her (whilst with previous owner) could have done something to prevent them. Artie also has surgical adhesions but his are down to kidney surgery and you can't use the drug the try to prevent them (can't remember what it's called) in kidney surgerys as it's contra-indicated as it puts too much stress on the kidneys. Hearing this news make me more sure I've done the right thing booking Dinky for her spay with FHB rather than taking the cheapest option.
I've just had an update that Elijah has eaten a little but I've been advised that there will be a further message at 4.30.

Vibes for them both, and hugs for you
Although it's sad news about Erin's adhesions, at least you know about them and know to be extra vigilant with her. Here's hoping they never cause her a real problem

Re: Elijah ... Erin BOTH home...
Thanks everybody.
Erin is now happily settled at home and tucking, very excitedly, into a big pile of grass, dandelions and raspberry leaves.
My message about Elijah from vets was that his blood glucose level had gone down to 7.5 (in the normal range) and he was eating a little. They were not worried about him. I'm hoping he'll be home tomorrow as it was caught quickly and *hopefully* he's recovering swiftly as a result.

Re: Elijah ... Erin BOTH home...
Erin's in pain again and refusing food.
I've rung emergency vet for advice, thankfully a vet at H-B's on duty tonight.
Vet says to give her Metacam, and if I can manage it Domperidone and Zantac. If I'm still worried later to ring back and they will re-admit her. She's an absolute treasure, I can't bear to see her like this.
Vibes would be appreciated.
