Thumper..... 25/9 PM/UD He's gone to the Bridge

Hubby called from vet. She is a rabbit vet!!! She is owned by several rabbits herself!
He said the procedure will take 45 mins and she will just give him gas. I told him to ask
her for some Metacam.

Should he have a different diet for a few days? She said his jaw was very sore. I always
rub his ears and jaw. I should have caught this! I feel so bad I let my baby down. He
was purring a bit oddly when I last was him Sept. 4. Can the tooth go bad in 20 days?
I'm as y'all say in bits over this.

More vibes please for Thumper. His weight was down to 7.5 lbs from 10.1lbs.

Don't feel bad! You too have not been well and I'm 100% sure you and your hubby would never let Thumper suffer knowingly.

Tooth problems are impossible for us to detect by feel - vets even struggle sometimes looking in their mouths so do not blame yourself!! Daisy has in the past on some occasions gone two weeks between dentals so id say a tooth can def become a problem in 20 days.

Sending oodles of vibes for Thumper. I just normally feed mine what they normally have. Daisy always wants lots of hay after any kind of anesthetic and will avoid his nuggs, he always has a little metacam for a couple of days too. Other than that he eats what he normally does.

Don't beat yourself up - you have had a lot going on for yourself. Toot spurs can happen really quickly. Bruce had one that appeared 10 days after he had had a dental. Metacam is useful if Thumper has damaged the soft tissue on the inside of his mouth as it will reduce the pain and make it more comfortable to eat. Otherwise it is not needed. He shouldn't need any change in diet either.

I would ask for some syringable food just in case he is reluctant to eat at first - Critical Care or Recovery are the two commonly used over here.

Offer him loads of his favourite things - fresh herbs are good if a bun is reluctant to eat.

Is he usually a good hay eater?

Our Thumper is gone. Hubby is beyond grief. Me too. I'll be back when I can. Please understand. I love you guys.

Vet thinks it was stress since they hadn't started the procedure yet.

I am so so sorry, of course we all understand. Sometimes they are just too delicate to cope with whats going on and their stress too.

I'm so, so sorry. Such a terrible shock.

I know there's no words that will make it any better, just take care and be kind to yourself. You've lost a special friend, your heart must be in agony.

Oh my God, Holly, im so terribly sorry Ive got tears in my eyes.

I never imagined this would happen, i just cant believe it and dont know what to say. I know theres nothing i can say to make you feel any better, but Thumper had a fab life with you, we all know how much he meant to you and your husband.

Thank you everyone. It was just so unexpected. The vet said he was otherwise in perfect health except for his teeth and that they were not too bad. She was not even going to have to put him deeply under since the spurs were so small. There may have been an underlying heart problem, but she didn't hear a murmur or irregular beat She asked if we wanted a necropsy, but I told her that I didn't allow my son to be autopsied and I certainly didn't want my precious bunny to be.

She was quite upset. Or I thought she was,,,until she asked if we were going to come in and pay the bill or if we wanted a bill sent. My husband said he could not stand to have a burial, so they will have him cremated. I just think they should have waited to address it since he has to go back and pick up the carrier.

I just feel so guilty. He usually loved to have his jaw/ears rubbed and he didn't want that the night before I went into the hospital. I just thought he was upset with the packing and different routine.

We wish there were rabbit rescues near us but there are not. We want to get a bonded pair. My husband is now home alone with out his little man to keep him company and greet him with binkies and running around his feet. Hubby said he didn't want to wash his face because that would mean washing off the last kisses Thumper had given him.

Thumper had the best life possible with you and your husband, and I don't doubt for a second that he will ever stop appreciating that.

He is up there now at the Rainbow Bridge, with all of the other bridge bunnies. They are binkying around and watching down on you, pain free forever.

Oh, Holly, I am so sorry. What a horrible shock and what a cruddy time you have been having just lately

Please don't feel guilty - we all do that with hindsight and it's never helpful. I know you took wonderful care of Thumper and that he was so happy with you after the horrible start he got in life. I'm sorry that circumstances meant you had not seen him for a while too, that must be tough

When you are ready, just the right pair of buns will turn up and need you to take care of them.
